I'll admit the things are pretty cool. I wouldn't mind having one in addition to my full blown Macbook, however, I don't think I could use JUST a netbook.
Who's got one? What kind? What do you use it for?
I noticed Verizon just put one out that uses the 3G network for internet access. $40 a month plus $200 for the computer. Sounds reasonable.
Now... if Apple would only put out a Netbook... Macbook Mini perhaps?

My buddy's looking at one of the Verizon netbooks so he can keep his cell phone and his computing seperate. He's a traveling DJ and a college recruiter, so he needs net access, and some computing power. Not a bad idea and the same price in the long run.
But not half as cool as my phone.

I dunno if I'd believe this at all. But who knows.

I have a "real" computer for times when I need more screen, faster processing, and a bigger drive; and I am too much of a codger to put up with the tiny screen or keypad on anything phone-sized. But a "somewhat little" unit for casual surfing while waiting somewhere would be just the ticket. |

I ended up with the Acer for something like $250 at Best Buy. Its been great. I have my Macbook Pro and my work laptop, but almost always leave them set-up on the desk in the office, and use the Acer around the house for everything else. Its especially handy in the kitchen to have a recipe onscreen, or watching a game on TV while keeping track of others online. When I have to work out of town, even though I have my work laptop, I always take it with me so I can go somewhere like the park or a bookstore or coffee shop and play around online. If I lost it tomorrow, I'd definitely go out and buy another ASAP.

I use it as a travel computer, and it usually is on the living room table for some minor web use, playing music when friends are over etc. While travelling, it's much easier to carry a netbook than a full laptop, plus I can throw it in my shoulderbag when at the university.
HP MiniNote is the best one around, IMO - just based on it's almost full width keyboard, plus the aluminum shell is pretty attractive. Most of the netbooks have the same Intel Atom et al inside, anyways. Compaq, sold at European market by HP, is exactly the same machine than HP MiniNote, but with a smaller HDD and plastic covers for €100 less. I think they don't have a card slot or 3G card inside, though, so you'd have to buy a USB 3G adapter for internet without a wifi network.
