is this a netflix only thing?

I got two movies from netflix the other day. Hannah and Due Date. I watched Hanna first, this message came up saying only feature film is on dvd, to watch extras get the blu-ray version. Also, I like to skip to the movie and not watch all the previews and advertising. this disc would not let me chapter skip or even fastforward (nothing wrong with my player cause I was able to fast forward on Due Date. I like watching the deleted scenes and whatever extras come with the dvd, Is this Hollywoods way or netflicks way of getting everyone to buy into the blu-ray craze?

Yeah, its also a rental thing. Sometimes those type of companies get "rental versions" of movies with more previews and less special features. Its to make you want to buy the full version after. Redbox does this a lot as well.

Hi.

The basic idea behind the business plan is to milk You dry. If You let them that is.
The money they make, comes mainly from advertizing, so no way in hell will they allow those to be skipped if they can help it. The advertizers would vanish pretty fast as well.

In the end, the choice is Yours, but they'll do their darnest to try to persuade you to buy your way into their market.

Sam

Thanks for both your replies. I understand now. When you hsve to sit thru almost 15 minutes of "stuff" before the feature film comes on gets a bit anoying. At a theater understandable, but at home I want to be able to control what I watch.

Send a message via AIM to GeneralElectric
And the MPAA wonders why people don't want DVDs anymore.

Yep, got that out of the Redbox last night. Big "RENTAL" across the bottom of the disc and couldn't skip through the previews. Was able to fast forward, but couldn't skip.

I think I may have a DVD or two that automatically goes right to the previews before going to the menu screen. I can't remember if I can skip them. I do know that it's a bit of a pain in the ass. I like watching previews the first time I view a DVD - subsequent viewings, not so much.

Maybe we need to say screw it and go back to watching movies on Beta and listening to music on 8-track.
