Well, that's the end of netflix as we know it. I'm a big fan of those "red box" things, it's only a dollar and you get movies a whole lot faster then netflix deliveries.

Yeah, it kinda sucks. But Hulu+ is the same price, and as long as they don't f it up with the networks and licensing, and the fact that I pretty much abandoned physical media anyway already, the choice is pretty easy. Thing is, now I need a device that picks up Hulu+.

I don't really see what's so great about Hulu+. Its selection is worse than Netflix without Starz.

Ugh. I hate the redbox. People go more brain dead when they get to the redbox than they do when they open the refrigerator.

Right on bro. Nice job picking up on that one. I really dig AIC, the original band.

Just for that, I won't laugh at you if Florida beats Tennessee on Saturday.

Mike, you're my boy. That's all I gotta say. I wish you'd show some more love because we're starting to go back with TB and all!

-James

And yeah, AIC is my favorite band next to Soundgarden and STP.

Thanks for not gloating, that guy.

Thing is, now the trust issue is on the table. Netflix broke that trust and is ignoring it and running with it anyway. Even if and when their shares drop more and more people cancel their services, even if they drop their rates it's too late, because there would be fear that in 6 months they'll just hike 'em back up...so Netflix is doomed. Total Sux. It was a pretty good, promising run.

While I was a little tee'd at them for the plan change, since I don't stream I'm saving money. Two video's at home for 11.98 a month unlimited is hard to beat. But I have Family video around here too and they are the best of the old fashion video rental stores. They have tons of selection, lots of new stuff and they are a 1.40 a night for new releases.

In a way you have to like Netflix for this one and hate on Starz. They are the ones trying to protect cables high subscription prices. If Netflix was doing what Starz wanted them to do they would be charging a lot more for streaming.

I think Starz is definitely shooting themselves in the foot with this one, they think that they're gonna get more subscribers when in reality they're just sending more folks to illegal torrenting sites.

I.e., smooth move, ex-lax....

You're welcomed

And you're 100% right. Netflix's marketing strategy to bring people in with artificially low prices and raise them when they had more than enough subscribers that they could lose some and still maintain a profit was nothing short of sleazy. Enough people have caught on to this and don't want to be associated with the company at all now.

I have mixed feelings about this. I reduced my netflix membership when they changed their pricing, and am considering cancelling completely because of the limited amount of quality streaming selection.

I am glad that other consumers also pushed back on what seemed a greedy move by what had otherwise seemed to be a reasonable service. On the other hand, netflix seems like the only company that's currently capable of compiling enough content to really usher in the new streaming media market that's been coming for some time. Without netflix, legitimate, one stop, universal streaming content seems a lot less likely, and these recent figures and the company's response to them suggest darker days for the company.

I want netflix to get better without gouging me, not to try and gouge me and then get worse when consumers call their bluff.

I can't understand this perspective. If you bought an certain item at a grocery store each that was always on sale (under retail value) and then suddenly the item was no longer on sale, would you feel violated and stop shopping there?

For about $19/mo, I get 3 newer DVDs and unlimited, instant access 1000s of older movies and TV shows, all commercial free. That is still a great deal, imo. Basic cable is $75-80, Hulu+ has worse selection that Netflix, and Redbox is not as convenient and usually out of the few best movies.

It's not really Netflix you can rag on for this, it's Starz, they are the ones being greedy here.

The thing is, me personally, I'm not going to watch TV and sit through 25 minutes of commercials with 35 minutes of content. Screw that. Pretty soon it's going to be 35 minutes of commercials and 25 minutes of content.

I'm not cancelling Netflix. I do understand the price goes up every now and then, and it's still WAY cheaper than some services from the cable company that are half advertisements. I would like to see them get more stuff into streaming.

But when it comes right down to it, frankly Hollywood is the land of the shallow and the greedy, and I could live without their stuff if need be and I'd be fine. I could practice more on the bass, go to the library, etc. Really who needs these overpriced people who think they are God come down to earth to mingle with (and rape) we peasants anyway? Not me. I couldn't care less if they just went away. They aren't heroes just people doing a job like the rest of us (and making a HELL of a lot more money doing it).
