Never thought I'd be back...

Hey Guys -

Not sure if any of you remember me, but I was fairly frequent around here for a number of years. Unfortunately I had to stop playing in 2007 because of getting severe Carpal Tunnel. It actually affected my ability to work, and because of another permanent disability, I had to stop working completely. I tried to keep playing but my hands couldn't take it. So I sold all my gear, and a year later got hit with the bug and bought a new bass and amp and tried again. Then due to financial reasons, getting a divorce, and decreased playing because of the ongoing CTS issues, I stopped playing.

But now I'm back and trying it again. I'm and always will be a drummer (which oddly doesn't affect my hands) but I can't deny my love for the bass and I have the itch again. That and now I'm in a relationship with a guitarist who wants to learn as well, so I made a fellow TB'ers day and bought a bass and amp off of him and am starting over.

So I'm happy to be back. I am determined to keep at it even if for various reasons I can only touch the bass once every few months. I never thought I'd play again, but I'm glad to give it yet another shot.

Welcome back to the low end. If you haven't tried it yet, get some technique instruction from a good teacher. I was having some wrist pain issues a few years ago and it completely went away when I made some changes to my technique.

I took lessons years ago and learned correct technique, though having it analyzed again isn't a bad thing. But my problem is that I can have hand and arm pain from just sitting there. My left forearm is throbbing right now and all I'm doing is typing. So it doesn't take much.

But with my drumming the doctor said it actually helps, so playing bass may as well.

I'm fairly new here, but it's nice to have someone else on here who is primarily a drummer. Welcome (back) to the party!
