Just heard this at the gate today: "Due to new federal regulations, carry-on baggage over 45 inches will no longer be permitted in the cabin. These items must be gate checked. Unfortunately we will not assume responsibility for damage to these items. Thank you for flying Continental, we will be boarding shortly."

New? I thought it has been that way for a while. My carry on is 45", so I have no worries.

Luckily, most bass gig bags are 48" and under.
