I think it's hilarious, but a great business move considering the popularity of the "virtual musician" genre.

LOL!

Don't you think it's to the point where it's: "Just learn to play the real thing already?"

I think EHX just dropped a couple of cool points in my book.

they've had some association with the rock band franchise for a while. I am guessing that the producers didn't like the idea of using the name "big muff" for some reason

Very disapointing. I've lost respect, moreso than the 3 (so far) bad Ehx pedals I've had. ( 2x SEM, and a Bass Blogger) And yes, just learn to play an instrument and be done with it. These "virtual" games, including the sports games on Wii, are just a lame excuse not to do the real thing. Don't get me wrong, I loves me some video games, just not this type of useless posing.

Here here. I'm looking at my POG and Muff with shame. (granted the Muff is one of Ryan's clones, so it's not AS guilty) When I go to pick up a nano small stone I'm going to feel dirty.

There have been incidents where Guitar Hero and Rockband have inspired kids to actually pick up the real instrument, but 1. it's mostly the drums and 2. from what I've seen everyone who starts guitar or bass from those games tends to give up after a week or two and goes back to the game.

I agree that it's all kind of silly but I think the one good thing about it is it gets kids interested in playing music. Of course maybe that's just wishful thinking. I'm sure there's some kids that have been like "wow this game is awesome, I should learn to really play an instrument".

Rockband/guitar hero/etc. are introducing non musicians into playing an instrument,

so lets say a few people actually do pick up a real guitar and are looking for an overdrive/fuzz (and everyone knows - distortion is the best way to pretend you're not awful....joke) well they've already got a hint of who might do one, as its plastered all over the game that gave them the motivation to buy a real guitar in the first place. The styling is the same.

no saying that EHX actually needs helps selling FX, coz obviously they dont. people who dont even know what a distortion IS will know who EHX are.

Let's remember, EHX is a business. They like to make money, and they're going to make some mad cash from this.

I got a small Rock Band leaflet in my Stereo Memory Man box that arrived yesterday.
I think this is taking it a little TOO far...

i hope this is real--as someone who plays rock band, i hate having to wave the guitar around to hit the overdrive--a pedal would be so much easier--i'd buy one

and btw, do people still actually feel threatened by rock band/guitar hero?

Reading the title of this thread made me have a quick at-work dream of what EHX should really do. Does anyone think that they should create EHX software for modeling their most popular effects?

PS, when I opened this I was disappointed even more that it wasn't this but some Rock Band plug.

Wow, amazing amount of either a.) ridiculous elitism or b.) rampant fuddy-duddy-ism going on in here. Am I the only one who enjoys Rock Band?

I play this game with a bunch of my friends who ALL play real instruments. It's just a fun game. I don't get you people. Also, its exposing a bunch of teenagers who would normally be completely ignorant of any music made before 1999 to a lot of good rock.

As for the actual product, I'm actually psyched for this pedal, because kicking in overdrive by tilting the guitar always screws me up. This is a much better way of doing it.

EDIT: OK a few others chimed in to defend RB and GH while I was typing this up

EDIT: FWIW I didn't say I lost respect for EHX and what they've done for the FX industry...I just thought they had a little more integrity than that.

Also I own Guitar Hero III....it was fun...for about a week.

At least it's not a Boss Metal Zone model. We don't need more young guitarists buying those.
