new iPod....but what should I get??

Sign in to disble this ad
I have around $200 to spend on an iPod.

I have an 8GB nano that I am giving to my wife and I need to buy myself a new one.

I am torn between a Classic with 120gb. With that I could carry every tune I own and then some, but I am really gassin' for an iPod touch. I could only afford an 8bg, but boy does it look cool.

Any thoughts?

vote up top!

I'm going to vote for the Touch. Although it's got less space, you can do a lot more with it, and the thing I like about having less space on my mp3 player than I do in my library is that it forces me to change things up all the time when I want to listen to different stuff.

Touch is good if you have the extra time to use it to surf the internet (although the WiFi sucks on that thing), and you can play games and all. The only thing is that you have to treat it like a baby. I would rather just stick with a classic iPod. It's not too expensive, it's got 80GB, and it's a lot more durable than the other types of iPods.

I had your dilemma in the fall of 08, so I first bought a 32GB Touch. Everything was amazing except I couldn't store half of my songs on there, and the internet RARELY worked. Even when I'm 5 feet away from the wireless router, it still took ages to load a page (ages: more than 1 minute). Then I decided to get the regular iPod classic, and I had nothing to complain about (until two weeks later they came out with newer version).

Get the classic. I've got a 16GB iPhone 3G (that I'm posting from while riding the the train) and have an 8GB 2nd Gen. Nano. I use the Nano far more often as a music player. I seldom utilize the iPod features on my phone because I prefer a wheel. That's just me. But the novelty, to me of touching the music you want to play isn't worth the 112 GB sacrafice.

I got the Classic for Xmas. Love it! I basically have my entire CD collection on it there is so much space. I don't have to choose what songs to carry; I have everything lol! I still have only used about 8 BGs for over 2000 songs.

The touch - you'll never listen to 120Gb of music in any setting and 8Gb should cover all your needs for music. If you are looking to load video and pics then go for the Classic with 120Gb - or spring for the larger capacity touch.

I love my Touch. If you happen to hang around a lot of places with WiFi access, then it really becomes the better option, especially since I've got Pandora on it.

This place is awesome....

thanks for all of your replies.

I added a poll.

Whatever the poll says is probably what I'll do.

You said you already had an iPod Nano 8 gig. Did you feel you had enough music with you when carrying that iPod? It's great to have your whole library with you, but the iPod Touch is a great device. I find myself using the WiFi whenever the connection is available. Also, the App store offers an incredible amount of free games and applications. I think it's worth having the Touch even though you have to sacrifice storage capacity.

only a few times I found myself missing some tunes when I wanted them.

I think it would be awesome to be able to just load all 45 gb of music that I have on my Mac directly to my iPod.

but, apps and games sound like fun..

If you're fine with only 8 GB then get the touch. Those things look cool. I have an 80 GB Classic because I wanted the extra room.

They are fun. Even if you have some free moments during the day and need to kill time, it's great to take out the iPod Touch and surf the web or play games. There is a free ear training app I enjoy that is helpful in refreshing some basic skills. As a music teacher, I'm sure you're well beyond that, but it's still neat.

You can put all your songs x2.5 onto the new classic. And you can put games on there too... Also, the classic is more reliable than the Touch.
