i can understand puerto rico wanting to do something like this, although i can also see how it would be a pain in the butt to deal with.

But, what I don't get at all is why this is done so seemingly "all of the sudden"? You're talking only 3-4 months for millions to get it updated. I can see this leading to all sorts of problems. Just doesn't seem to well thought out to me.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: May 2008 Location: Calabash, NC | | I was shocked to hear this as well, being half Puerto Rican myself, but my mother was born in Puerto Rico, so this really affects her (along with half of that side of my family living here in the States), not me. The way I found out about it was my supervisor at work brought in a local newspaper with an article in it about this. It makes sense to me, that PR wants to stop the birth certificates being sold illegally. But I agree, it's going to be a pain in the butt.
