For those of you with TVs in their rooms - is 27" "tv" too small for a room tv?
So, here is dilemma, I am using my computer for basically everything, DirectTV feed goes into my HDTV tuner card, DVD is on the computer and so on.
My monitor is only 21" so when i am laying on my bed, it's too small and frankly too old as the colors just blow. Needless to say "lets go watch tv in my room" line will not fly with the girls when there is 52" tv in living room.
So I think i am going to buy a 27" HD 1080p monitor and double it up as a TV and a monitor (2 monitors never hurt no one.) Problem is, while for monitor that's huge and awesome, is it big enough for a TV?
Note that when i am laying on my bed sideways (thank you Cal King) my head is about 8 feet away from the monitor.
Here are models i am looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001392 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824005127 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...142&Tpk=M2762D http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116441
So, do you think 27" is too small to function as TV from 8 feet away? Anyone have any of those monitors they can recommend or scare me away from? Personally I am leaning more towards Samsung, but 1 year warranty is scaring me away... rest have 3.
I thank you all in advanced. So, Thank you, I am sorry and you are welcome.

Everyone raves about the Apple computing devices, but there wide screen displays are better than anything else I have seen for the sizes they offer.

-Mike | If you want to spend 4k on a screen that's the best way to do it.... I just had knee surgery so I had to set up my room downstairs, my dad gave me the option of a 30 inch screen that he uses in his room, or I could take my older brothers 40 something. I am sitting maybe 10 feet away from it, and the 30 wasn't small by any means, but if you have the money go big. Hook up your computer via HDMI cord, it will clean and crisp.... but that's only if you have the money.
Get it mounted and everything, get yourself a wireless keyboard and mouse unit, and sit on your bed and read TB while swooning the ladies.

I only had that TV for a day or two before I swapped it out for the bigger one. It didn't work to well with the Xbox, so I went with the bigger one...

For that reason, I spare no expense when it comes to purchasing audio and video equipment for my home. The Apple displays are expensive, but they are the best. Besides, the 30" is only $1800.

-Mike | I doubt I'll be in my room for NFL/NHL - I'll be on the other side of my door watching it on the 56" HDTV with surround sound, bbq, and crap load of people.
This is just to chill in my room when i need a small brake from having 5 roommates and 5-10 guests in the house... That or like i said, when i got company that i want to be alone with.
1800 is a bit too much... I can get a 27" monitor and 40" TV in my room for that (or sell the 56" tv and get 75" tv).

The LG in your third link seems perfect for the job, and it has a pretty classy stand.
FWIW, I sometimes watch my 22" monitor (no TV in our appt) from that distance and it's pretty comfortable.

Also stand on LG SUCKS... monitor is shaking as i type... i dont like it.
But size is perfect, i am going to risk it and go samsung.

| | | | If I was getting a monitor that big I think I'd want it to be a higher resolution than 1920 by 1080. For a 1080 I'd want a 24".

So check it out...
I bought LG and had to return it, when i did i got the samsung...
It's awesome as a monitor, but a bit small as a TV (although it works)
So here is my new questions.
Whats the difference between LCD monitor and LCD TV - there isn't much right?
Specs are the same, 5ms, 60hz, resolution is the same... etc etc...
I am thinking of exchanging my 27" monitor, getting 32" tv and using dvi to hdmi cable.
Problem is, how close can i seat to it...? can i use it like a monitor and seat behind the desk? Or too big? Anything else that is different between the two?
