a few Clark collectibles in the bookcase

A gentleman and champion for the ages

Looks like the diecast might've appreciated a bit over the years:

Greatest of all time during the greatest era in F1! In todays attitude of drivers playing musical chairs with teams, it's interesting to note that Jim Clark only drove Chunky's cars his entire career. There is an interesting article in last months Motorsport magazine about the 'real' memorial hidden away next to the old course at the Ring. By the way, thats a very nice display! I'm sure Jimmy would have appreciated it!

My uncle was involved in Grand Prix racing in the 60's and 70's, starting out as a mechanic with BRM and ending as some kind of management guy up in Surrey with Ken Tyrrell. He often spoke about Jim Clark being one of the nicest, most humble and approachable guys in racing. For me, Jimmy's death was the start of a long string racing deaths that kind of soured me on F1. When Francois Cevert and Ronnie Peterson died, I lost interest in the sport until just the last 5 years or so. I have my opinions on the cause of his crash (based on what my late uncle told me), but I don't want the ghost of Colin Chapman chasing me around, so I'll keep those opinions to myself.

Those Exoto models are super nice. I poked around the website,...no WRC cars sadly but some really detailed models.

I had the extreme pleasure of talking to Jimmy's mechanic a few years ago; a fellow named David Sims. He is currently managing the Risi Competizione sports car team in the American Le Mans series. David was there at Hockenheim in 1968. We talked a while about drivers and how Jimmy might have done if he'd gotten to drive some of the modern F1 cars.

There's a great story about how Jimmy asked for a slight setup change before a race, then went out on track and scored a dominant win. After collecting the trophy, interviewing the press, etc., etc. he came back into the garage and approached his mechanic. "You know that change I asked you to make? It was worse. Please put it back." I asked David about this story and he smiled. "That was Jim!".
