Details are sketchy at this point, but there has been another explosion on an oil rig in the Gulf. All 13 crew members are accounted for, fortunately, and the Coast Guard is looking at the chances of another leak. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/09/02...uisiana-coast/

Apparently they were performing maintenance and the rig wasn't actively producing oil or gas.

Second: the platform appears to have been in a maintenance cycle, and no oil appears to have gotten into the Gulf from it.
Hopefully, this will further reinforce the concept of safety FIRST on rigs.

My understanding was that no oil will be released because of this and that safety procedures prevailed, with no serious injuries. Way to go team!

Whodathunkit?

Pardon my skepticism but that reeks of oil industry propaganda.
Bioremediation of hydrocarbons is a well documented natural process...but not on the scale you describe. Could you direct me to some reliable reading? |
