Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new mobile phone because the one I have now is old and tired.
So can anyone recommend me a good mobile?
Price isn't a huge concern for me right now. My only criteria is that it has to have heaps of nifty features for me to play around with.
Also it doesn't matter if the phone isn't on the market just yet, I can wait any time up to six months.
I like the iPhone but I don't like how if I buy one now Apple will release a far superior model in 6 months, making mine obsolete...

When it comes to tech stuff, I don't encourage worrying about whether Company X will release something in 6 months time that will make your gear obsolete. Let's face it, at the speed technology is moving, that's bound to happen.
Just buy and enjoy it.

Maybe I should just buy a 3GS then sell it before they release the new ones so I can upgrade? |

If they DO announce the ETA of iPhone 4G (for lack of a better term), the announcement will probably cause a big drop in the value of the 3GS.

I personally love the Android phones. The Nexus just came out, it looks awesome http://www.google.com/phone?utm_camp...term=nexus%201
FWIW I have owned and hacked almost every kind of phone/device, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, an Ipod Touch, Motorola, Palm, Nokia, etc. and find the Android platform the most open and flexible. It is just a small Linux computer with a java based UI so any Linux Programmer can easily write and distribute their own software with no corperate BS

If you want, you can wait until then to purchase the latest one. Keep in mind, there will always be a new iPhone released every year. Same story goes for all of technology. The Droid on Verizon was supposed to be the greatest Android phone available. Less than four months later, the Nexus One is released with an updated software that is still unavailable on any other Android device. If you decide to get the iPhone 3GS you don't have to worry about it "becoming obsolete." I'm using a first generation iPhone and I can still do 85% of whatever the 3G and 3GS can do. The 3GS is MUCH faster than the original, and you certainly will get a lot out of it. |

Still using an original 2G here. Battery life has me looking to upgrade to next year's model.

I honestly don't see a better phone on the market right now. Yeah, I know Apple has 80,000,000,000 applications, but the Android market is growing daily as well. Besides, how many of those Apple apps are stupid farting, burping, and movie or TV show soundboards?

Our iPhones aren't only available on one network like in the US. We can get iPhones locked to Telstra, Optus and Virgin or we can just buy the phone unlocked from Apple.
Just so you know. I must check out the Nexus, sounds interesting |

I thought the Nexus One was the Droid Killer?

No offense Boing, The iPhone is an awesome phone, I work closely with 7 guys that have them (and a couple with iTouch). I also work closely with 3 guys with various Android based phones.
They all have strengths and weaknesses over the others. For me, I have a music server running at my house that I listen to about 6 to 10 hours daily... it has an Android app, but no iPhone app. So for my main use of a mobile internet device, Android wins. |

It was the best phone on the market in my opinion. I don't think it's the miracle machine it's made out to be but, it's pretty cool and very functional.
