New Pipes, Water Tastes Terrible

So, they replaced the main water lines coming into our house and the water tastes awful. Any filters or anything to help get rid of it?

I have a Brita filter that you fill up from the tap. It has a spout like a water cooler so it just sits in the fridge. Holds 18 cups, filters in about ten minutes. There are also filters you hook right to the faucet, and ones that install under the sink.

unless something is leeching into the line that should have cleared out by now, especially if it's supplying the whole street.

How does it taste terrible?

It tastes kinda plasticy or like some slightly gritty maybe although I could just be making up the gritty part.

I can smell it when I get in the shower too.

It should. My tap water isn't good, it's an older building with older plumbing, there's a metallic taste and a bit of chlorine smell. The filter makes it taste like bottled water. I got mine on sale at Walmart for $25. You have to change the filter about every 2 months, they cost $8-$10. Before I got this I was buying 1 or 2 gallons of water a day for about $1 apiece.

+1
We have a Brita that hooks up to the tap.

$30 (not on sale) and filters cost about the same. Works great!

I used to chug through water all day, but I can't even deal with drinking a glass of it now.

The taste is similar to iron, but not. Same sort of aftertaste.

You need to talk to the city and have them test the water.

yeah you shouldn't have any kind of taste after replacing a line a month ago.
