So, I was talking to a friend yesterday, and the topic of straight edge came up. I know this can get quite contriversial, so please, lets all be friends...
Anyways, I was telling him about the time my friends band played at a straight edge party in Glendora, Ca. Lots of preppie straight edge kids in this area. My friends band, and friends that went along - not so straight edge.
We spent most of the party out in the street at a friends car, drinking beers, whiskey, passing around a few jays, etc., etc., and had a great time nonetheless.
So I was talking with my friend about how I dont mind people who choose not to indulge, right on for them. However, I can't stand the preachy kids who walk around with X's on their hands throwing it up in my face talking to me about the evils of indulgence, I get it, okay, and choose otherwise. And whats with the X anyways? We gonna throw down some tic tac toe?
So, we decided this is the thing to do. Show up to straight edge parties, not with X's, but O's on your hand instead. Its fairly obvious that O is the opposite of X, and O could also stand for opposite. What does this bring about? Well first off, us indulgers can now stand a chance at the almighty game of tic tac toe. And secondly, it serves to draw out any other indulgers who may be lingering at said party. This can easily work to your benefit...
non straight edge cute chick bored at straight edge party sees guys (even better, you) walking around with O's on their hands instead of the typical X. She gets curious, naturally knowing that O is the opposite of X and approaches you to ask about said marking. You thusly explain, at which point she states either "Yeah, i like to drink too" or "Oh man, I could really smoke a bowl" etc. Its only obvious what to do next, invite said chick out to the car for some and immediately up your game over 95% of the guys in attendance.
I propose an effort to research this, and plan on beginning next weekend, just as long as I can find some straight edge scene kids to point me to their parties. But, being that I have no straight edge friends in the scene (or at all) I may have to do some extensive undercover research.

Oh, btw, this thread is brought to you by the influence of a couple of stoners, hanging out, watching (rather, making fun of) Prison Break.

Women love a man who can handle a drink and isn't afraid to show it. Carry a spatula in your car, which will come in handy for scraping the women off your vehicle when you park up. |

just kidding...
Dont sweat it... you are young and wont do jail time...
BEAT THEM UP!
I fought a couple of straight edgers back in the day... but I was a pretty brazen, angry youth. I wanted to teach them that they couldn't preach at me... That will get the chicks more than wearing a silly circle on your hand...
Nothing says how awesome you are than a bloody face!

Especially at their party? The X is a social statement that says they're above the influence of whatever. Its also a call for attention, but it also helps avoid questions like "hey do you want a beer?" In my opinion, you're even worse.
I mean I love drinking and smoking as much as the next guy (see my avatar?) but I could care less if you do or don't. I don't preach it, and I don't care if you do preach about your straight edged-ness. Its the same with me being an atheist. I don't preach that I am to people, and I say more power to the people that do believe.
I do think there is a problem is you can't go to a party and can't have fun without drinking or smoking pot. Seriously.

Generally it's always people who want to drink do, people who don't don't. How do you tell who drinks? They've got a bloody drink in their hand!

Now, given that sober people never give them the time of day, what makes them think a drunk is going to care? |

EDIT: Or is it the equivalent of a 5th Grade disco? |
