People are enslaved against their will. No one is forced into addiction.

Problem with that term is, no one chooses to enter into slavery. Well except for sex slaves.

Damn straight.

Developing a drug addiction is a personal weakness, not something you had to do because of some external stronger force of will.

Calling it "chemical slavery" just takes more power away from the addicted, and makes them less likely to recover. Getting out of an addiction requires great personal strength, and no one's going to feel strong and independent if they feel like a slave.

I always think its fun giving daft names to things, but this is a bit pointless!

I used to think 100% like you until very recently when i watched these Bill Nye videos. I'm not saying I've completely flip flopped, but I can better understand why some people consider addiction a legitimate disease.

I agree 100 percent that true addiction is a disease. But I also believe if the individual never touched the substance they would NOT become addicted to it.

I know putting a gun to my head and pulling the trigger would end badly, so I don't do it! These people know that the substances they are using could very well ruin their lives (especially those that grew up in addicted families and SAW it), yet they do it anyway!

Alot of people have the

"It wont happen to me, I dont have an addictice personality"

or

"Its just the government saying that, my dealer knows more about the effects than those science loosers"

or

"I only do it with friends, I wont get addicted"

view points

Sure. But it's still a decision they made.

Oh yes, its just people who get themselves into it are usually too dense to realise what it will to do them. Either that or they are on a spiral of self destruction.
