Newfoundlands, anyone ?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I had to slow down my musical (inclunding TBing) because something wonderful happened in my life on last Christmas nght.

Our Newfoundland female gave birth to 10 awesome puppets (5 males, 5 females), and since then they have become a real passion.

6 of them have been sold at the age of 2 months, and we have decided to keep the 4 remainers (while we were still receiving requests for their adoptions).

Here's a pic of mine. He's called Denny Crane (yeah, inspired by Boston Legal), and he is now 6 months old. Awesome dog, and the love story that is running between him and me is like a daily massive dose of magic, happiness and passion.

He would weigh about 55 lbs at the age of 4 months. Now he is around 88 lbs. Due to his evolution, the vet (who is a specialist of these large breeds) says Denny will probably weigh close to 200 lbs when fully adult (after 18 months).

Here's a pic (he was 5 months old on this one) of my lovely Denny.

Anyone else has passion for Newfoundlands on TB ?

My neighbor used to have one but the dog drooled terribly. I don't know if that's normal for the breed but the poor dog constantly had long strings of saliva hanging out of his mouth. I think they're beautiful dogs though, especially the Landseers.

I built a barn for a guy that had two. They drooled all over the place and it really sucked when you picked up a tool only to find that one of the dogs had drooled all over it. Awesome looking dogs though.

Their drooling is due to the fact that 1/ they evacuate sweat with their tongue, 2/ they are sensible to heat so they drink much water a day.

Now there are breeds that are known for drooling way more than them;

Yes, they look awesome, and they are actually the only breed I have full trust in spontaneously.

You guys spit out the word "drool"...

...like its a bad thing?!?

Nothing cures an ailing soul like a big drooly hug from one of my Great Danes!

Although... my nose is still aching from my face meeting the top of Haus' head last evening... that cartilege is loose AGAIN!

I love Newfies. Too much fur for me (or our climate). Great dogs for water, for kids, and for lots of love.
You... must... post... puppy... pics!

They have really mellow temperaments, which is a good thing because they're really friggin' strong. They were originally bred to be working dogs in a very inhospitable climate and around very cold water, hence the thick coat and webbed paws. They do drool a lot, though.

The Labrador retriever was also originally bred in Newfoundland (not Labrador). It was originally called the "St. John's Water Dog" after the capital city.

Just a quick update : our puppies are now almost 11 months old. The males are about 130 lbs and females about 110. Newfies make our life much happier every day.

I'll try to catch you some recent pics.

They are one of the greatest breeds, except for the one my grandmother had when I was little, that dog was an evil bitch (in the literal sense). It died from smoke inhalation in a fire though. It was not a friendly dog whatsoever. But every other Newfie I've met has been wonderful. Several months ago I met one during a Second Saturday in midtown Sacramento, a Landseer with the biggest tongue I had ever seen on a dog, and yes it licked me, it was like getting plopped in the face with a giant uncooked schnitzel. He slimed me! Haha it was cute though.

My buddy has a newf....awesome dog, but he likes to eat everything. He ate the wife's smokes last time we were there (which I didn't mind). I hope he doesn;t eat my pedalboard that I left there (I would mind!!!)

My friend used to have one. It was probably the gentlest giant animal I had ever come in contact with.

Unfortunately it died a few years ago
