Question Next Weekend in Boston, MA... What's going on?

I'll be in Boston next weekend from Friday through Monday for a conference.

I'm staying near Logan... Anybody have any gigs or know of any bands I should check out in the city?

See if you can find a place that my friend Tom Bianchi is playing, worth the trip.

Wally's on Mass Ave and Columbus - best jazz in town. It's been there forever. Billie Holiday sang there.

The Boston Phoenix website is crap. Won't give me the music listings for that time period. Grab a paper, like the man said.

that's lady to you, ma'am!

wally's is a good bet (no cover). be prepared for a crowded room and people who act like the last thing they want to do is hear some jazz band play.

of course, you could come to the beehive (in the south end) on friday night and see us play...

Right on. That's what happens when I assume.

Good luck Friday.

I just checked out your page... I just might have to do that but my conference starts at 8 on Saturday.

What time do you ladies actually start playing?

Might not make it then... I'd catch a couple of songs and have to start heading home.

Here are some URLs on the Boston Globe website, that could be useful.

http://www.boston.com/ae/?p1=GN_AE
http://calendar.boston.com/
http://www.boston.com/ae/music/

Wally's Cafe - http://www.wallyscafe.com/ is a short walk, South, from the Christian Science Center/Berklee location

The Middle East, http://www.mideastclub.com/ is in Central Square Cambridge. It's an interesting place with good music & food.

Boston is generally a safe place to walk, easy to get around. Still, it is a city. Travel smart, stay alert, leave the bling in a safe place & carry what you don't need for a night out in a money belt.

Check the MBTA site http://www.mbta.com/ for schedules & routes. The last outbound train is usually at about midnight. Load the phone #s of 2 cab companies into your cell phone in case you miss it. Since you're out near Logan, cabs will charge you the tunnel toll. If you're out with 2 other people, it shouldn't hurt, much. ;-)

Enjoy your visit

also, weather is nice (and 'nice' means over 32 degrees ), but rain is expected. bring jacket and umbrella.
non-musical, but the institute of contemporary art is always a good time, as is the museum of science.

does wally's still have their jam sessions on sundays? definitely worth a check.

Victor Wooten is playing at Berklee on Sunday night, contact Ticketmaster. I think there are still some available.

For blues, you may want to check out either the Friday or the Sunday show with Chris Stovall Brown.

Shirley Lewis is a great singer and Chris and his band are old pros. http://www.shirleylewis.biz/

The Sunday show has a jam afterwards -

if Ron Downs, his regular bassist is there, you could give his sweet 60's P-bass a try. Tommy Doyles has decent pub food but it is in the Nonantum section of Newton which is not particularly well located to public transit. It is a shortish 20-25 minute (but probably expensive since it is all tunnel and turnpike) cab ride from Logan. Or you could take the Green Line to Newton Centre and grab a cab from there.

I'm going away this Saturday and Sunday, but I may catch the Friday show with Shirley. That show is accessible by the T. Enjoy your stay in Boston.
