NFL Black Monday: 7 Head Coaches and 6 General Manages Fired!

WOW! A bunch of NFL coaches and GMs were let go today. Here is the list ...

Head Coaches:
  • Chicago Bears (Lovie Smith)
  • Philadelphia Eagles (Andy Reid)
  • Cleveland Browns (Pat Shurmur)
  • Buffalo Bills (Chan Gailey)
  • Kansas City Chiefs (Romeo Crennel)
  • San Diego Chargers (Norv Turner)
  • Arizona Cardinals (Ken Whisenhunt)
General Managers:
  • New York Jets (Mike Tannenbaum)
  • Jacksonville Jaguars (Gene Smith)
  • Cleveland Browns (Tom Heckert)
  • Carolina Panthers (Marty Hurney)
  • San Diego Chargers (A.J. Smith)
  • Arizona Cardinals (Rod Graves)

I love the Bears to the ends of the earth and I also think that Lovie was a good coach (as well as a decent man and class act) but it was time. I was bummed about the Bears missing the playoffs but the fact is, the Bears would have been one-and-done anyway.

There is an excellent core of talent in Chicago. Let's see Emery get a hotshot young coach, a REAL offensive line and go from there. (It's also time for some old players READ: Urlacher, Hester, et al. to be sent packing.)

BEAR DOWN!

Not a terribly surprising list, but I am a bit surprised that Rex Ryan and Mike Mularkey are not on the list.

I have a good friend in San Diego who has been praying to get rid of Norv Turner. I got an email from him quoting "Free at last...free at last (etc.)"

Wow. Way to go Raiders. I for sure thought the coach firing tradition was gonna continue. Now it's time to plan out how to squander that #3 pick.

Yep... I think of all the coaches on that list, he deserved most to get the ax.

As a Pats fan, I'm happy to see Rex retained. The Jets shouldn't be a factor next season.
