Everybody (on TB and everywhere else in my life) knows that I Am a a diehard Chicago Bears fan. Monsters of the Midway, Super Bowl Shuffle, Da Bears, you name it -- I am there. Hardcore.
Here's my problem. I have been living in Minneapolis for over 7 years and while I've always had disdain for the Vikings, I find myself wanting to see them succeed this year. I know what it's about -- I have always liked Leslie Frazier (an ex-bear) and I want to see him do well as a head coach. I am also a Donovan McNabb fan (another Chicago boy) and I really hope he can turn it around.
Unfortunately, that puts me in the position to actually root for the Vikings (when they're not playing the Bears) and I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Is it practicality? Disloyalty? Does it matter?

I grew up in Texas. The 1st live sporting event, of any kind, that I attended as a spectator was a Dallas Cowboys game.
I have lived in Atlanta for the past 15 years and at some point the Falcons rubbed off on me.
As far as I'm concerned, anyone who thinks my rooting for both teams makes me disloyal can kiss the fattest part of my Texo-Georgian butt.

I've been a Packers fan since the 1960's, and a Seahawks fan since the team was established.
Since I'm a Favre fan, (shut up, thanks, Gard), I followed the Jets and Vikes when he played for them. But I didn't root for the Vikes over the Pack - that was a bit much to ask.
You can be a fan of as many teams as you care to. I have worked at three Land-Grant universities and I follow all three, although my allegiance to Washington State University is paramount.
Honestly, I have no idea why anyone would even ask the question.

I grew up in Chicago, but had the misfortune of living amongst both the Queens in Minneapolis, and <shudder> amongst the vomit green and puke yellow in Cheeseland, and Walter Payton himself could have made a comeback and joined their back field, Ditka could have been hired as their coach, and it would not have reduced my deep seeded and unabiding hatred for either one.
I see it this way. The only way you get to have more than one favorite team is if you root for the Bears and whoever happens to be playing the Queens and Cheeseturds each week.

I give the same loyalty to any pro team that a typical free agent does. |

I'm more of player follower. If you played for Oklahoma State, I'll root for your team which unfortunately includes Dallas at the moment.
And yes, it's only a game. Root on. |

Luckily, my kids latched onto the Packers years ago so I have a great 2nd team. Husband's not so sure about that - he grew up in MN and is a die-hard Vikes fan. (what do you get when you cross a Bengals fan with a Vikings fan? Little cheeseheads. Go figure.)
Which brings up my only concern: Chicago... Bears fan... rooting for the Vikes? That might go a bit over the line there... :-)
Seriously though, you've been there 7 years and there are Bears and Chicago ties. Go for it!

An NFC team - maybe, depending on the game and/or circumstances.

Well, we'll see what the season brings. The Vikes may have to be my shameful secret this year.

That would be like me, as a life-long Steelers fan (and I'm talking about the '50s & '60s when they REALLY sucked!), rooting for the Ravens. Ain't gonna' happen unless I need them to knock off a specific team on a given day that would benefit the Steelers...

I could never root for another division team ('cause I can't stand any of them) and have a really hard time even kinda liking another conference team .... but that's me, anyone else can do whatever they want to
In reality, I'm not really a football fan as much as I'm a NYG fan .... I only pay attention to other games as they relate to the current standings and how that will affect Big Blue |

I could NEVER EVER NEVER EVER NEVER root for the Bears, Viqueens, or Lions. The Viqueens especially. I even hate the color purple because of them. When one of those teams is in a position to help the Packers by beating someone else in the conference, I'm always VERY torn. That's just me though. I have no problem with rooting for teams in the other conference. I kinda like the Titans because my sister lives in Nashville and is a huge fan.

| | | | With sports, there is only 1 team I am passionate about and that is the San Diego Chargers. I am from San Diego and have always been a fan. I like other teams but am not passionate about them. Same with other sports too. I can watch them but I am not effected by if they win or lose.

I feel like it's okay to like multiple teams, unless they are Michigan vs Notre Dame, Oklahoma vs. Texas, Tennessee vs. Florida type rivals.
