NFL Fans Sue over Superbowl Seats

Sign in to disble this ad
Link here

"Approximately 1,000 fans sued the NFL, the Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones on Wednesday saying they were deceived by not getting seats or received inadequate seats. The federal lawsuit, filed in Dallas, alleges breach of contract, fraud and deceptive sales practices."

These fans got to watch the game, go out on the field afterward, and were given food and merchandise.

On top of that, the NFL is offering two options.
Option 1: $2,400 and tickets(transferable) to the next Superbowl.
Option 2: They can choose which future Superbowl they would like to go to(can wait until after conference championship games of that year so they know who will be in it) and receive round-trip airfare and hotel accommodations.

Apparently, there is an Option 3: Sue for $5 million.

What are your thoughts?

I think not every one of the affected ticketholders were able to see the game.

The NFL and the Dallas Cowboys had 3 years to get the stadium ready - they didn't.

Bottom line is they shouldn't sell tickets for seats unless there are going to be actual seats.

$5M / 1000 = $5,000 per ticket holder. Seems fair to me

If the Cowboys could cut their roster by one player, they should have enough cash to cover the lawsuit.

I knew as soon as I heard about that fiasco that the wreck chasers would come out. The NFL is offering 2 tickets and 3 x'x the value of the bad ticket = 2400 + 800...that suit for 5 mill will see the shysters getting more than the injured parties...

....but those lawyers get a cut of that 5 mill

Only 400 actually didn't get their seats, and those 400 saw the game from a different area.

The seating fiasco happened because the city wasn't able to handle the torrential downpour of snow that happened upon Dallas. The whole super bowl (aside from the actual game) was a huge mess. But a 300% of face value refund, tickets to another super bowl of their choosing, on field passes, travel and hotel accommodations, and whatever the heck else was thrown into the pot....I think was quite generous.

***** greasy lawyers and wreck chasin fools...

You don't get all of that. You can have $2400 and tickets to next years SB, OR you can have tickets/airfare/hotel to any SB you want to go to.

Yo se, I just typed it out in rant form. Still a fair shake, to me.

Do forgive me, I've had a crappy night/morning. I think I'm gonna go have myself some honey bunches of goats to cheer myself up

Nope...... This went down due to a NewYork based contractor called Seating Solutions didn't get the job done and bailed at the 11th hour.

To blame the weather is weak. The contractor said his guys couldn't get to work. BS. I was out in it all week. I got to every location I was supposed to...... in a '98 rear wheel drive Ford truck. The areas around the stadium were dry as a bone the entire week.

The company underbid the job, couldn't get it done and bailed...... I find myself in the uncomfortable position of defending Jerry Jones. The dude drives me crazy. But this was a NFL fubar from start to finish. Jerry was PISSED at the way the League set up the whole property. There were tents set up all over the place outside the stadium. A group of them actually collapsed the day before the game. The worthless contractor (another NFL hire) couldn't repair them. They couldn't even get them removed. I saw it on the ESPN broadcast..... It looked like a friggin' mobile home park.

Jerry has been demoralized by the entire affair. I mean, the dude is a fame whore, he has no business trying to evaluate talent or stocking a roster with football players....... But the man knows how to put on an event and he's pissed he being pulled into this. Of course, when you're as visible as he is, this is what you get.

If the NFL gets it broke off in 'em over this, I'm fine with it. But Jerry and the Cowboys stopped running this show on Jan 8th. This was an NFL production from start to finish and they butchered it.

Jones was the one trying to set the attendance record, not the NFL. I find myself in the uncomfortable situation of defending Roger Goodell.

I would go with Option one, thats close to $5000 and if they won the lawsuit then they would only be getting maybe 50%-75% of the $5000 and the rest would go to the lawyer.

I don't give a crap whose to blame - contractors, NFL, Jones, Obama, whoever else. I wasn't blaming the weather as if everyone else was absolved of "guilt," or whatever. My point was that the league offered the fans quite a fair shake in recompense.

The people headed for the temporary seats paid roughly $800 each.

Whoever approved the use of the seats, and blessed them after they were installed (prior to the fire marshall's inspection) should be on the hook? After all, they took people's money in exchange for the expectation of a place to sit and watch the game...

Ignore the options on the table, and let the lawyers take them to court, or at least settle for much better offer.
It's not like this case would see court delays for seven years like some of the high profile cases, or would it?

I agree. The 2nd proposal seems more than fair......

Really? The NFL doesn't want an attendance record? They have too much money? Come on.....

The fact remains that this was the NFL's contractor. The Cowboys had their preferred contractor, Rayco construction of Grand Prairie, TX. They installed the bulk of the fixtures in the stadium originally. The NFL went with the lowest bidder.

To your 2nd point, defending Roger Goodell gets harder by the day. This labor dispute will be long and painful. I'm not confident in his abilities to pull this together.

Or maybe it's just my post-football season depression kicking in.........

Huh. This took about three days longer than I expected. Lawyers must be a little slower in the winter months.
