The NFL Network Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
If you don't know, much of the country can't get the NFL Network because the NFL wants to charge too much [IMO] for a channel that only has worthwhile programming for a few months. Some cable companies just won't play ball.

I've read that the NFL wants to charge as much for the NFL Network as what is paid for year round channels like CNN and the History Channel, at least that's what I googled when I was pissed-off about this last year right around this time -- and the year before that.

How many games per year are on the NFL Network? Eight?

Well, I just thought I'd vent since I can't see the Jets vs. Pats tonight w/out going to a bar.

It comes in a package with some other channels up here on Comcast. The cost is $5.99 per month, and you get about eight more channels. Not bad I guess since the other channels are decent.

I've come to rely on ESPN for my NFL highlights, rumors, news, stats, broadcasts, etc. So I have no need for the NFL Network. I think they really screwed themselves by creating their own network.

Yeah, it does blow I suppose, but the Jets / Pats game tonight should be interesting. In a couple weeks it's the Cards and Eagles.

Hmmmm.... I could watch the VT / Miami game tonight I like college ball better anyway. Screw the NFL

Gotta bump this. We need to be part of a grass-roots revolution.

Think about Thanksgiving.

TEN @ DET
Nov. 27
12:30 p.m. ET ...... meh

SEA @ DAL
Nov. 27
4:15 p.m. ET ...... meh

ARI @ PHI
Nov. 27
8:15 p.m. ET ...... now there's a game, but it's on guess what network?

Thanksgiving and football go together like turkey and mashed potatoes.

Am I the only one that's pissed?

I had to go to a bar to watch the game last night. A frigg'n bar.....on a weeknight. Thank you Roger Goodell, for showing so much pride, and not enough business sense. Millions of people didn't get to see such a great game. Millions of people are pissed. Good job NFL.

On the bright side, as a former NYer, it was a pleasure to witness the Jets beat New England in OT. There is a God.

I like the NFL Network. I get it through DirecTV. It's not just the games. They have some real good news, interviews, and opinions. I have to admit though, I won't watch it during those months when they're trying to push NFL Europe down our throats.

But I do feel bad for you folks who can't get it. It's not like you want to watch it all the time; but if there's something on you DO want to see, it's a bitch not to be able to access it.

Hmm, last I heard was that the NFL was upset with the cable providers for charging for and having to get it in a package deal with other channels. The NFL wanted it to be free to all cable subscribers. Has something changed that I haven't seen? If so, provide a link to what you read please.

BTW, I like the NFL network and watch it regularly and I pay $5 a month for it.

I get the NFL network - and I pay for the NFL Sunday Ticket.

But the NFL is rapidly becoming the most money-grubbing, money-extracting machine in sports. I'm REALLY getting tired of them trying to hold up everybody and make them pay for every little thing they do. They need to smarten up and realize they're pissing people off. I'll never go to another game in person - ridiculously expensive and the view is better on TV.

College football is better, anyway - even when my team is losing (which they REALLY are, this year). And it's more affordable if I go in person.

I feel your plight on that. Though I'm a Bucs fan, I'm originally from NY and grew up watching the Jets practice at Hofstra so I have some loyalty to them as well and it sucks that I can't watch their games down here.

Anyone who says the NFL Network sucks either doesn't have it, or is not a true NFL fan.

I admit I am not a rabid fan, but I am a fan of NFL football. NFL network sucks. The interviews are almost completely vapid softball questions, the staff is highly variable. It seems how good you were as a player is much more important to the NFL network than how good you are as a TV personality.

The play-by-play for the games is terrible even since they got rid of the incompetent (at play-by-play - he's very good at other things) Bryant Gumbel.

ESPN PWNS the NFL network when it comes to NFL coverage. More is not always better.

I like the NFL network. Off season they have good coverage of draft prospects and the draft, show old games and other things that tide me over until the new season begins. I can't say I watch it daily, but it's nice to have when I get a jonesing for foozball

So how do you really feel?

I'm about as big of an NFL fan as you get, but I do not care for the NFL Network one bit. I prefer ESPN for all things NFL related.

To me, NFL Replay is worth the price alone. I can DVR 3 to 5 games that I couldn't see on Sunday. Then watch them whenever I want. It's a lot cheaper than NFL Sunday Ticket on Directv. And then there's the reairing of classic games. And America's Game. I could go on and on. Like I said, I don't know how an NFL fan could not love it.
