NFL: teams ya love and love ta hate

So who do you cheer for? Who can't you stand? And who do you quietly root for even though they'd tar and feather you if they found out?

Me:

Ravens, my whole division is up-gunning it's offense, should be a good season, provided I win.

Patriots - Dynasty my a**. It's not a dynasty if you cheat to get there. Shoulda chucked 'em clean out the league for that one.

Eagles - If for no other reason than to upset Dallas fans

Been a Packers fan since the 1960's. Grew up in the Pacific NW, so the Seahawks are the other pro team I follow.

Unless Favre plays again. I watch him wherever he goes, because he plays the game the way it should be played. I'm not so rabid about any team that I won't watch it when it interests me.

Incidentally, I was much happier when the Packers were NFC and the Seahawks were AFC. That made my dream Super Bowl possible, but it went away when the Seahawks moved to the NFC.

Harrumph.

And of course, I dislike the Raiders (they're old Seahawk foes) and the Cowpokes (lived in Texas for 13 years and Cowpoke fans are often insufferable), as well as Chicago.

And being a Pack fan, I try to NEVER miss a game against "Da Bearz".

Teams I love to hate - the Jets and the Dolphins. The Dolphins because for many years they were so much better than the Pats, and the Jets because they suck d**k. The Jets are the Yankees of football, but without the wins.

I'm a homer - lifelong Lions fan.

As such, I absolutely despise the Bears, Pack, and Vikes.

At 32, my football fan-dom has been riddled with cruel and unusual punishment. Season after season of mind-boggling disappointment and frustration. Even 10 years of watching Barry Sanders every week during my teens was bittersweet when he retired and I realized he was, essentially, the "Dominique Wilkins of the NFL" (props to Mike Valenti for that analogy).

The 'Fins are my bye-week team of choice.

the tri-fector i root for is:

Pats
49ers Raiders

i used to live in the bay area a few years ago before i moved back to NE. at the time both the 49ers and the Raiders were the worst teams in the league and since i like an underdog i root for both.

meanwhile i hate a lot of teams (in order):

Colts: pretty much only cuz of peyton "holier than thou" manning, although the cowardice of the front office this year didn't do much to improve their image (to me, obviously)
Steelers: they're a tough draw year in year out but the "terrible" towels, and steely mcbeam give... mixed signals.
Dolphins: jason taylor's petty and unprofessional attitude make the whole organization look like a ....
Ravens: a bunch of thugs with as much class as looks (which is to say, none)
(most overrated player in the history of sports): whichever team he is on
Bernard Pollard: whichever team he is on
Jets: i both love and hate rex ryan... he's so weird
Broncos: only cuz the pats can never seem to win at mile high

most of the other teams i'm completely ambivilent about.

.. ooo 'cept the chiefs, who i guess i have to root for now that they're the patriots west.

Y'know, I don't hate any pro teams. They're pros - they're paid to play. The players move every couple of years, there's very little continuity any more...it's strictly a commercial enterprise. Any more, I find it hard to get excited about that.

Green Bay is the closest to an exception - but their players come and go like most. At least they're not owned by some billionare who likes to play with the team like chess pieces.

College football is the sport about which I can get emotional - but the pros are making a living, so every year I probably spend less time on them.
