It's still a 2 way street. Bands like to play established clubs because if the band's crowd doesn't turn out entirely, regulars are there to be won over, or at least retained.

There's some truth to 'proving' or establishing one's act, but-only once should that ever be necessary. A good promo pack can help you get past that. And if your date is weeks away, get your behinds out there to promote your show.

It's still a business arrangement, the bar or club has the stage, many times a PA & lights, and some regulars. What the band HAS TO do is make all that an even better experience for everyone there.

The clubs make their %, the band gets their minimum, and folks come back the next time. It's working for an average turnout that sometimes goes up. Reliable income all around. That's business.
