I couldn't live without my phone. Costs a lot, but I budget for it. At least you don't live in Canada, we get hosed on phone casts.

I got my cell phone in college when I was living at home. Now that I'm out on my own I have the choice to get a land line or keep the cell phone...the cell phone costs more, but IMO it's more convenient than a land line.

I'm calling it... land lines are going out for people. A cell is much more practical.

I agree. I don't think most young people these days have land lines...at least not most of the folks I know.

In my profession, I need almost constant accessability. It also is a plus when you have kids. Whether you need one or not depends on your personal situation.

You can easily check various plans, and even go to a pay-per-use cell if you want one but seldom use it.

I almost feel tied down having one. Remember when...there weren't any? They are handy for emergencies and all but how often is that? I'm not trying to push not having one, just pissed after getting a new "plan" for the family. I'm more than willing to dump mine so they can have them.

If budget is an issue and usage is minimal, look at prepaid phones. They can be had on the cheap... minute for minute is expensive, but for a month if not used very often, they can be quite practical.

I agree. I haven't had a land line in almost a year. I have coworkers and friends who have not had one for several years.

With my job, I have to be in constant contact anyway, and a cell phone is so much more practical. I don't have to hang around the house.

And tethering to my laptop makes it possible for me to do my job from the park, a football game, etc.

Yep, no land line here either. I'm in college, and in the past three years, my land line has been called once... and it was a wrong number... I don't even know what the right number is.

I always give out my cell number. That phone is always with me, and if it's not convenient to take the call, I'll let it go to voicemail.

We haven't had a land line in about 3 years. No need for one.

Have had a cell for about a year now (had to get it for job). Since I'm self employed cost was a concern. I have a $9.99 phone that I must put $20 onto my account ever three months. There is no monthly charge but I pay .18 a minute for usage. My unused $'s rollover each month so after putting my $20 on last month I had $38 worth of time.

Land line I use from my cable company. For two years they added phone service with unlimited local and .04 long distance to my cable and internet package and since I am in a bundle my bill went down $20 per month.

No cell here, but about to cave. Drive a 25 year old BMW to gigs, long lonely beach roads, would hate to ruin my rep of being there before I'm due to start, ready to play. It's been nice to be hidden for so long though.
