No concentration at work anymore...

So this might sound a bit whiny but anyone else not able to concentrate at work?

I work on a computer all day (been at this job for about 9 months) and I find myself more and more unable to keep myself off the net and focused on work. The more old hat work gets the more time I spend on TB, or surfing. I only get motivated if I'm on a deadline or have an important project.

I'm feeling pretty guilty, but I still can't bring myself to do anything today.

I couldn't count the number of times those exact words have come from my mouth. You should start an "Official Desk Jockey Who Spends Most Of His Workday Not Working Club". Or something wittier. I lose my wit temporarily along with my soul every time I walk into this building.

I feel a bit better now honestly, I'm glad I'm not "just a lazy no good employee"...I don't think man is meant to do this all the time...All the new people with insano pre-burnout work ethic make me guilty though. Maybe tomorrow I'll get something done.

I work with computers myself and its either balls to the wall busy or extremely slow. It's been really slow lately and I can't focus on work at all, spend most of my day surfing the web and especially TB. I feel your pain!

I disagree. Maki will often respond with a "meh".

This is true. I will often respond with a 'meh'.

As for the OP, you forgetting that you're coming off a holiday weekend. It's always tough to get back into it after you've been off for a little while.

I read a TON of crap, but I still get my work done. Just find that balance and be discreet.

I have these days most often actually. As in right now, since I don't have anything on deadline I'm looking through TB, reading about bass stuff, game stuff, wiki... it's allgood.

I know that I get stuff done when I need to.

Have worked decades in database (marketing research) crunching numbers and doing presentations on what the hours of analysis meant. Kept myself to a strict budget of play versus work, 10 minutes kind of thing.

I'm in retail now (bought a store and maybe the farm with it), and I still keep a schedule to play time and work time. Having said that, there is nothing better than playing bass for relaxation or talking about it on this forum.

Pre-Burnout

Yeah, I've been at the same job for 3.5 years now, working as a mechanical designer/project mgr.

I've been in full burn mode now for over a year. Companies like to work us nowadays until we just CAN'T give a **** anymore.

No, I'm not lazy. I got a 4 star rating on my appraisal a year ago. But just after that I hit the wall. Not quite as bad now, but I am definately surfing too much, angry that my friends are laid off thru mismanagement and lousy economy, and just not feeling like I care about working hard for them anymore.

Actually, in a few months I'd like to get laid off and get some unenjoyment for a while - need to reboot the system if you know what i mean.

later
