We still have 1p and 2p coins here, though realistically I'm not sure for how much longer.

It's similar over here, they stopped making £1 notes a fair while back and have been removing them from circulation.

I would wager there's more rounding up than down. But I'm still all for it (other than the fact that my 3 year old loves them).

In Canada we have had a $1 coin since 1986 and a $2 coin since 1996. There has been talk of a $5 coin for a while.

Seems like it'd be fairly easy to spot someone trying to round up on you when they should be rounding down. We all know the rules of round, yes? Just keep your eye on the register total.

Well, there goes Penny Candy and the 99 cent store will have to become the $1 store.

We've had a £1 coin since 1983 and a £2 coin since 1998. However I'm not quite sure why they introduced the £2 coin.

There was mention of a £5 coin over here too, there have been a few 'special edition' £5 coins but certainly not general circulation.

The upside of keeping more smaller coins is they can keep minting thingsl like this:

Are $1 (US) coins quite an uncommon or odd thing? I got them as change from a ticket machine in the US and a few of the store clerks seemed perplexed by them.

Penny candy, ha!

The 99¢ Only store actually charges 99.99¢ for items marked ninety-nine cents. Youre already paying $1.

Ticket machines are likely to give you change in $1 coins, like the Metrolink, but most retailers will give you bills. Theyre not uncommon, just not quite popular.

Just had my first non-penny transaction buying a coffee this morning. Was rounded down as the rule said it should be....

I won't miss them....

There has been talk here in the USA about getting rid of the penny, I don't know where that's at, at the moment. I knwo, it's always bugged me how things are priced, like $2.99 instead of $3.00. I've yet to hear an explanation for that that makes any sense.

Here is one, my wife sees the price and says two dollars and I look at her and say no three. Its California so its actually $3.30

I first ran into the round off in Germany 30 years ago. I wonder what is taking us sop long to follow suit. I don't think Pfennings are worth much of anything to collectors.

$2.99 looks more appealing on the shelf than $3.

Though I'm glad the on shelf prices here already include tax. If you pick something up that is marked as £1 on the shelf, then it costs you £1 at the checkout.

I highly doubt most stores would want to risk losing a customer or the bad publicity over a couple of pennies.

I think it's a wise move, and I've heard talk of the same thing happening here. How many stores will one visit in a day(?) - we're only talking a few cents a day, and will save billions in manufacturing costs. I think I read that it costs 2.5 cents to make a penny here.

money is becoming more and more abstract, and that's find if your a CPA, but for the average person this means less and less control over your own personal finances.
I don't understand this. I use cards ALL the time and make money. You simply treat it as a debit card, keep your receipts and pay off the bill each month as you balance out your month. Then you gain all the free money from the card usage. I have flown to Belize twice with just free miles from my card, my wife across country as well. I constantly have Home Depot free cards to use for home repairs. It is money I would not normally have and I get it because I use a credit card and don't keep a debt, so simple. Now cash, sheesh, I spend that on the goofiest things and can't keep it. Learn the system and use it to your benefit I say.

J. C. Penney Store went with exact dollar amount pricing last year on all their items. No more .99.

However, what I never understood was the gas pricing 9/10ths of a cent as in $3.59(9)

It's about time.

Despite the fact that we're still minting them down here, nobody's using them. Give a penny take a penny ends up about the same as Swedish rounding does. Sometimes you win a few cents, sometimes you lose.
