i went to install some equipment at an office. 2 people were coughing really bad.
I asked as a joke to one of them if she had the swine flu. She says she went to the hospital and the results came negative. They said she just had the flu.
The girl said her coworker gave her the flu, and she said "Mary" (not her real name) gave it to her. She asked Mary if she went to the hospital too to test her flu.
Mary said no, because she didn't have insurance.
Oh man, I was out of there really fast. I mean this girl is coughing and sneezing like crazy.
But it is true that a lot of people in the US don't have insurance. So what do they do? Nothing.
What about those that are no legal, and might be sick too. A lot if not most of illegal immigrants work in all the restaurants and bars. I don't think one of them is going to show up in a hospital sick and be afraid of being deported.
There is no control whatsoever.
Instead of the news saying "stay at home", "consult your doctor"
Should say:
"Keep your kids at home, and don"t leave them at the mall either"
"for those that don't have insurance do this..."
You know actual facts, instead of a metaphoric way of saying "SAVE YOURSELF". |

People are stupid. People are myopic. They only care about their own point of view, and sick or not, they're going to do their own thing. They're going to go to work, spread the disease, regardless of their impact on other people.

I would go to work if I was vomiting blood out my nose, and I stock the fruit at a grocery store. How does that make you feel. |

I still haven't figured out why the media has jumped all over this outbreak. From what I have read this particular strain isn't much worse than the typical annual flu. I guess "swine flu" just makes for better news than "late spring 2009 flu."

Most people who are sick at work with sneezing and coughing are suffering from a common cold.

This whole swine flu frenzy has gotten way out of hand. I dont go to the doctor everytime my throat gets sore, I have the sniffles, or a cough/cold. I dont go to the doctor because I have a fever that lasts 24 hours. I DO go to the doctor when after a few days rest I still dont feel well. I dont have $20 to spend at any given time because Im coughing.

I wouldn't care but it's $1040 a year and we also get a $20 bonus per week as well. That's $2040 extra that I need to raise a family. So getting sick is a part of life you just have to live with. The best thing is to wash your hands regularly and to eat a healthy, vitamin packed diet. Getting a flu shot every year might help too.

Where I live this sickness has wonderfully happened with the swine flu hype, so everywhere I go I get dirty looks.

if our society encouraged sick leave, affordable health care, saving money, good paying careers, etc. we'd probably have less people coming into work sick. most people (in my experience) prefer to both be healthy and to take days off as needed however, the realities of doing those things is not available to far too many of us.
