Here`s the story:
There`s a small town in my country named "Firmat". Sometime during last year a hammock started to swing without any explanation.
It gradually became a tourist attraction and many people went to the place to check the phenomena.
The city major decided to call scientists to check if there was a physical explanation (gravity, pressure, winds, electromagnetism, etc.) and after several tests, they came to the conclusion that there`s no physical explanation possible.
I usually don`t believe in this kind of things, but trust me that this one is real. Video 1 Video 2

See how the wind in the twist of the swing pushes in the correct direction most of the time. When the driver-frequency is close to the resonant-frequency, large amplitude oscillations occur. It's just a coincidentally tuned system.

Without doing any experimenting myself the first thing that jumps out to me is a resonance of some sort along the lines of what ehque mentioned. |
