Not raking = hillbilly neighbor?

I bought a house in a semi-nice neighborhood about a year and a half ago. It's the country club subdivision, but built in the 50's....so it's not the mcmansion areas if that's what you're thinking. Decent, mid to upper middle class for the most part.

I'm pretty busy for the most part, and when I am not busy, I am pretty much lazy. I don't really see the point of raking leaves, or feel it is worth the effort. I did notice over the past few weeks that I am pretty much the only one who hadn't raked, which I was pretty sure probably pissed everyone else off as they will receive my leaves via wind propulsion. My wife decided to rake some last week, and bagged up a ton...but our lot is like 115x145 so she didn't get it all.

So today I am home working on paperwork for work, and hear the unmistakable sound of a mower in my yard. I have no idea who it is...some guy on a riding mower mowing away. I went out and asked if I could help him, he said he saw my wife raking last week, and thought he'd come over and help (without asking) since he had mulching blades on his mower.

I have no doubt the smiles and friendly gesture were a cover for "having to do the hillbillies work for him". While I am thrilled with a free mowing (the grass was fine), I am kinda pissed...it's my yard, and I personally don't care about the leaves.

In the next couple weeks I have a semi-beat-up 99 silverado, and a 20 foot enclosed trailer coming which will be a resident in my driveway for the next year or so. I am sure he will love that. I suppose I could also start a collection of crashed sprint car parts in the yard as well.

I have never seen the point in raking leaves. My mom used to say that the grass will die if you dont. I think thats a load of bull because every forest preserve and natural area ive ever seen has beautiful grass.

We`ll rake leaves in the front both for look and for some innocent fall fun, but we leave the back as is. No reason to rake something no one sees anyways.

Pretty funny story. I like the part of walking out and seeing someone in your back yard mulching no less. Your neighbor could have just been finding work for his new lawn attachment(s), can't tell for sure.

Maybe he'll help you restore the caddy or spray paint the trailer...

Wouldn't bet on it.

lol, that was part of his reasoning...he likes running his mower he's had for the last 11 years. He was in the front yard. No caddy...silverado extended cab 4x4, black with rust (literally) trim.

Here's the trailer I am getting delivered which will be the pride of the neighborhood. I should consider a big "nekked lady" graphic to replace the graphics currently on the front.

As far as the not raking think, it would bother me. I'm somewhat of a lawn nazi. I don't care what's in your driveway, but unkept lawns and/or unraked leaves drive me nuts.

I think if you are in a neighborhood where your unraked leaves will blow onto neighbor's property, you have a societal obligation to contain them. Not a huge difference from letting your dog poop on the neighbors lawns.

Which brings up a great point....since I live in a nice quiet neighborhood, everyone walks their dogs here. Tons of shiz in my yard

Cubed steak marinated in antifreeze can fix this problem.

Nah, no way....I love animals (dogs especially). I saw a bumper sticker that summed it up nicely... "I love dogs. Humans, not so much". I was leaving for a gig, and saw a golden retriever pinching a loaf in my front yard this summer while the teenage owner was standing there sending a text waiting. I had planned to get out, pick up the shiz bare handed and sling it at him...but much to my surprise, he was carrying a baggie.

Some towns have ordinances about grass height and sidewalk shovelling, there might be one for leaves as well. I've had friends get citations for lawn height.

I have to, so you do too!

Here's what I do with as much of the leaves as I can.
Have you got a vegetable garden?

tim, you're missing the point here: you don't like leaves, right? chop down the trees, no more leaves
