Now I know why I've been so ill...I think I'm diabetic

If any TBers remember I've often complained about being ill- dizzy, tired, drinking massive amounts. I discovered the reason why today.

I decided to have a blood glucose test done today and my levels were almost double the healthy level at 9.3. There is a good chance I have diabetes, and I am seeing the doctors tomorrow to have another test done.

Have any TBers got any experience of this sort of thing??

there is a diabetic bass player's club around here, dont have a link to the thread though.

I have indirect experience, my wife was diagnosed with type 2 shortly after we were engaged. The good news is that diabetes can often be controlled with diet and exercise and other lifestyle changes. There are also lots of medications that can help.

this looks like a good website to check out if you havent already.

Could your hearing problems be connected to diabetes?

Is it possible that is part of your hearing issue? Please do follow up with the doctor and do as he says. Diabetes can easily be controlled but you have to keep a close eye on the situation. I bet you will soon be feeling a LOT better!

Tiredness and chronic thirst (and urination). Usually good signs of diabettttus.

The good news is, it will force you to lead a healthier lifestyle, the bad news is obvious.

Lots of people in my family have and have had it.

If you don't follow the advise, expect amputations, blindness, etc.

If you are diagnosed with Diabetes, find a diabetes education class. In the states at least, there 1-2 day classes that help you understand the condition, manage your sugars, and help you change your lifestyle.

It was a big help for my wife and I, 4 years after diagnosis, her blood sugar is under very good control and she has dropped about 20% of her bodyweight. The less extra weight you have, the better your sugars tend to be.

Well I know a cyclist and a few runners....

I'm planning to drop a couple of stone anyway and this is a serious kick up the backside to do so.

I've seen the results of many people who did not take diabetes seriously. I hope you do not fall into that group.

Sucks man, sorry to hear that.Take the doc's advice.the lifestyle changes may suck, but the alternatives are even worse. The good news is that once you know what is wrong, you can treat it so generally you will feel better.I know a lot of people who have it,including my wife.It isnt that they dont eat junk food etc, they just have to be sensible with it,and stay on top of it.I hope all goes well.
