Now I'm understanding that Life is hard.

I always knew that life was going to get harder, but now it's starting to register.

I've done 2 years of junior college now, and about to start over (again) and go with Metallurgy. They don't have any schools in my state that offer it, so I have to find a school out of state. I'm planning on moving and working for a year and then returning to my studies.

I don't really have money though. I'm sure I can find ways to cover the school part (loans, grants, scholarships, etc). Living expenses are going to be something else though. I'm only working part time right now, which isn't paying for much at all.

If I move and work full time, I can manage. When school starts again for me, I'm not sure. I'd have to go back to part time.

My two years in college have given me a new direction (after changing my major several times), but they haven't done anything for me financially. I'm years away from a degree or certificate, because my credits so far are mix-matched. I can't really move and work a decent job because of it.

Jeez, I don't know if I want to ask help for advice yet, because I'm just so lost at this point, I don't know what to ask. The only thing I do know is that I want to pursue Metallurgy, and it's going to have to be out-of-state.

Well kudos for where you are in life. At your age, I was worried about getting laid and playing music. As I look back on my "lost 20's" I would of done some things more responsibly. Life does get harder my friend, but you seem to have a good head on your shoulders.

Life is supposed to be hard. When you realize that, it's not so hard any more.

Seconded,
Once I stopped caring about anything but paying the bills and living within my means life got really easy.

I'm about to give you a 100,000$ worth of advice for free:
DO NOT TAKE OUT STUDENT LOANS!

Consider fulltime work and part time school, finish a degree in something doesn't matter what from what I see in the work place just something you can stand and then go back for metallurgy (you can get more than one degree).

The advice I would give is to take a breath. You've changed your major "several" times over two years, so is it really worth moving to another state and stalling your momentum for another major, especially something as specific as metallurgy?

If you want kayos, make planes.

That saying is all to true.
When it comes to school have a good back-up. Just if metallurgy does not work out for you.

Sounds like you are getting it, and I hope you find a bright future. As one just a couple of days away from 55, it doesn't get any easier, but you do gain a lot of coping skills, as you learn to brush off insignificant crap that might have sent you into a tail spin in your youth, and you find that you can come through things you never thought you could.

To the OP,

If you do not try, you cannot succeed. Not reaching for your dream ensures that you do not reach it. Ignore the nay-sayers and the gloom-doomers.

Life is hard, but it is not "supposed" to be. Those that think life is supposed to be hard tend to make life harder for others than it need be. Life should be "challenging" and it often is.

Keep your thoughts positive and, good luck with your future endeavors!

Life is sad.
Life is a bust.
All you can do is do what you must.

You do what you must do, and you do it well.

Hey! Don't let the fact that you don't have a degree or certificate yet get you down--all the people finishing school with them right now can't get jobs anyway!

Seriously though, do you need to move before you can take a year working full time? There's little chance of employment in a lot of places, but if you can manage to stay put while you spend that year saving and clearing your head out, you'll at least save all the cost and hassle that comes with moving. If you stay put for that year, you will also not have wasted any time in case you end up deciding against metallurgy.

Can you get a paid internship or work a job within your major while you finish school?

Most out of state colleges require one year of residency to pay in-State tuition. Out of State tuition can be 3 to 4 times the in-State rate.
