Just called and gave them my uncle's life member no. and viola! I'm now a lifer for $300 (regularly $1,000).

Just thought I'd let everyone know about this deal, for me it was too good to pass up! Much better than paying the annual dues of $35.

No thanks. I'll stick with JPFO, GOA, and AZCDL.

Actually, looking through the site, life membership is only $375 for me, and I get a 'Distinguished Membership' as a disabled veteran.

The thing that turned me off to NRA membership was the amount of "Stuff" they sent me.
There was no way that they didn't spend more on me than they got.
I would have been much happier if they had just taken the money and bought a politician than sending me twenty pounds of magazines and mailings.

They did however...offer to send an attorney to Florida when I got busted for CCW and having armor piercing bullets even though I had a carry permit and a 1911 full of Federal HydroShock's.

Well, you gotta think of the outside revenue streams they get too. Donations from members, donations from non-members, advertising in magazines, sister publications with advertising space, donations from weapons manufacturers and dealers, charging retailers and clubs for member instructors/seminar speakers, and high-collar members like Moses himself. That doesn't even touch the interest they may gain from investments or discounts from their mass printing in their publications.

Other organizations do similar things, the Association Of American Hunters, American Legion, VFW - they all do very similar things.

Hey, I'm in an open war against this:

"Voilą" means "there you go!".

"Viola" is the future perfect of raping.

$300.00 in 2010? Wow.

I paid 300 bucks way back in 1985 for my NRA Life Membership.

I thought it was bigger than a violin and smaller than a cello.

Only in English. You sure don't say "Guitar! All is done!" do you?

Voilą, in French, is a word that comes from "Vois lą", basically "see here". That's why English borrowed it.

In a conversation, viola, especially if you pronounce it like you read it, will sound either like Viola, the past historic form of "violer", to rape, or literally like Viole-la, an imperative way of saying "Rape her". This last one is offensive enough to get a kick in the nuts if you're trying to impress with your French skills.

So: "Voilą", pronounced "Vwa-lah"

Derail over, sorry.

I believe that right now disabled vets can get the lifetime membership for $300 if you call. I don't think you have to have a sponsor if you're active duty or disabled vet.

I heard an interview with an AZCDL guy on Guntalk two weeks back. It sounds like they're doing some awesome stuff out there.

Actually, a "Viola" is a 4-stringed instrument pitched between a violin and a cello.

At first glance I thought the thread title said "NBA Lifetime Memberships."

Then I realized how in light of recent developments in the NBA, that would've been quite a coincidence.

I wish I could afford it now. I always seem to sign up sometime during an election year. I wish they kept it at $25 for the yearly membership, when they went to $35 I suspect it hurt there recruiting a bit. There is something about a fin that's always doable.

Hey Steve, I meant to tell you at the Bass Bash about the indoor range nearby, just a 2-minute walk away across the river, but I got sidetracked. Just in case you were looking for some recreation while you were in town.
