O.J. Simpson was sentenced this morning to at least nine years in prison for his role in an armed robbery at Palace Station.
| He got off with the double murder IMO, but this is a bit harsh if those were stolen goods. If someone stole my stuff, I might do something similar [I would hope smarter though].
I should say I don't recall the details of this case.

I should say I don't recall the details of this case. | Kidnapping at gunpoint is a VERY SERIOUS federal crime and cant, be served concurrent with punishment from state crimes...
15 years consecutive with parole after 5 years
then a bunch of misc little stuff that can be served concurrently
He'll probably serve 5-8 years... |

He'll probably serve 5-8 years... | I really don't see how kidnapping in the traditional sense comes into it. "You ain't leaving this MFing room 'till we get to the bottom of my stolen s--t", isn't kidnapping to me, but I didn't write the law.

Even if OJ was right about the stolen goods, that's a matter for the police. Any time you take the law into your hands, except in extreme cases (self defense, in your house, etc), you're probably going to wind up in just as much trouble as the criminal, if not more trouble. |

OJ is apparently an idiot, didn't he think that with his past history every PD in the world would be quite happy to hang any little thing on him they could - much less a weapons charge?
If he really was trying to regain stolen property, he should have called in Johnny Law, even if they don't like him, if he has been the victim of any crime, they are duty-bound to investigate and apprehend anyone that has committed a crime, even if it is against someone like OJ.
I call shenanigans on OJ and his "retrieving stolen property" defense.

Curb your dog, drive under the speed limit, don't jaywalk, and don't attempt to commit armed robbery. |

I agree. What he did was stupid and I think the sentence was fair...........but calling what he did kidnapping is a stretch. It seems like you would have to at least leave the room with someone to call it kidnapping |

The shame of all of this is that OJ won't be able to stake out golf courses all over the country in pursuit of the "real killers" of his wife and Mr. Goldman any more. Ok, that was in bad taste...... Sorry.
I think it's good for the families of the people he murdered that he's finally in jail, even though it's for a different offense. |

If he had any connection to reality, he would have avoided legal trouble like the plague. To me, OJ is a tragic figure in the sense that although he got an acquittal back in 1995, he could not get his life back. I don't think he really accepted that he was no longer the Juice, and that White America no longer loved him.
It goes to show that you really can't go home again.
