Just when I thought things were fine with Paypal, BOOM! They give me $3200.00!

It's a Merry Christmas Chunk-O-Funk!

Seriously though, I can't believe I am still having problems with this one transaction and I find it hard to believe, from this one transaction Paypal is still in business.

Here's my original thread, but I will recap.
Paypal just scared the crap out of me!

Late May, 2007 I have a fraudulent transaction of $3200.00 go through my account. I call Paypal, they have no problem recognizing this as fraud and take the transaction out of my account.

Early September. I get a chargeback from the so called victim for $3200.00. It takes almost all month to straighten out, but finely they figure it all out. End result, they pay the so call victim his $3200.00 before they figure out it was fraud. I'm in the clear.

Fast forward to today. I get a gleeful notice from paypal explaining that I have a reversal for charges due to their "specialist" disputing wrongful chargebacks. Guess what? That right, I have a balance of $3200.00 in my account!

Un-f'n-believable!

You guys have to tell me what you would do in this situation. Really, tell me the truth. I've already done the right thing only because something like this will surly bit me in the arse later, but I would love to hear what you would have done. Obviously they don't have much of a clue and I am still dumbfounded that this is still going on.

Just think about what actually happened. They screw themselves out of $3200.00 just because 1) they didn't report the fraud which allowed the person to file for a chargeback. 2) They didn't check into my side of the story before giving him the money, and 3) give me the $3200.00 when they finely collect it.

First they were out $3200.00, and now it could have been $6400.00.

I really don't know what to say about Paypal, but I sure as hell am not trusting them with my money.

Oh, so it's 3200! You said 32000 first and my bass shopping spree senses were tingling.

Seriously, the right thing to do is call them and tell them what they did wrong.

the fun thing to do is buy something with it. You could buy a nice bass with 3 grand!

If your heart is too good to keep it, by all means, send it over this way!

Yeah really, you said $32,000, and of course my first thoughts were 'Imagine all the basses you could buy! Maybe a quarter of what ctbassandsongbird has!'

Although I guess the right thing would be to call them back, I think you should just take the money and do some good with it, like buying presents for the needy. That way, if they ever call you and say they want their money back, you just tell them that it'll be awfully sad for all those poor kids when you take Christmas from them.

Let them know about their mistake. They'll figure it out eventually, so if you spend it you'll end up having to pay for it. Who knows, maybe they'll hook you up for being a good boyscout.

I have to agree, let it sit in your account for a while. If paypal haven't catch on to it then you're good to spend it.
