The Official Garfield (the cat) Appreciation Thread!

Did a search, and there isn't one yet, so here it is!

Garfield has been my absolute favorite ever since I got book #1 for a birthday present when I was a little kid. "Garfield at Large". Still have it, along with books #2 through #35 and a ton of others. I've been slacking lately though and haven't read any of the newer ones (#36-45). I'll pick them up soon!

Also love the old animated cartoon series, Garfield and Friends (with the US Acres strip too, though their musical bits are kinda annoying to me now). For a while last year they were playing it on Cartoon Network at 2:00AM and I would stay up late every night just to watch it . Ran for 7 seasons! Amazing. I just got the DVD of the first season and am going through it

Haven't seen any of the newer Garfield movies though, and I don't plan on it. For me, the voice of Garfield died with Lorenzo Music, and Bill Murray just isn't quite the same. The modern 3d rendering doesn't feel right either. To me, the old animated series was the perfect adaptation of the comic strip Garfield, and I would just leave it at that.

So show your love for Garfield and the genius of Jim Davis!

Ugly, fat, snotty, wise-ass, pre-odie, Garfield = funny and ground breaking.

Once he introduced a foil and made Garfield "cute" it was never funny again.

Garfield was funny when I was 12 years old. That was a very long time ago.
