Quick caveat - common sense - this thread will probably contain multiple spoilers. Go no further if that sort of thing bothers you
Anyway, the wife and I were talking last night about how some movies, despite being otherwise enjoyable, have some of the worst, crappiest endings ever. Of course a "crappy ending" is usually subjective and such so we're not all going to agree, but I was curious as to which movies you folks think have a really bad ending and if you want to add, why you think so..
I'm defining "bad/crappy ending" very loosely. Think - being poorly made or thought out, overly sad, overly shocking, unnecessary, too long and drawn out, way too "happy", no sense of closure at all, completely confusing, etc
Some that come to mind from the horror / sci-fi genre:
The Mist - totally unnecessary and didn't make sense with the overall flow of the movie. It seemed to be thrown in almost as an afterthought. One last "gotchya!!" out of left field that didnt work IMO.
Skyline - wait...wuut? You gotta be kidding. What a really corny way to end a movie - in the middle of a battle for the earth, with a guy turned into an alien with human brains and emotions trying to save his GF and unborn kid in an alien spaceship... not that that particular concept couldn't have been developed, but just that it totally ended right there..WTH?
My wife hated the end of the third Lord Of The Rings movie with the excuse that "it just went on and on forever"

Sucker Punch did it for me. There was no come uppance for the stepfather.

I didn't get the ending at all...so the blond girl/Baby (main character) didn't exist at all but was a creation of the girl that had actually escaped?? Is that how they were trying to twist the ending?

How about From Dusk Til Dawn. I remember when I read that script. QT was all the rage, fresh off of Pulp Fiction, and I was working as a script reader for a film company. When that came across my desk it was laughably bad. It was almost like he accidentally stuck two scripts together. I gave it a pass but forwarded it onto my boss, who still tried to buy it just because of who it was. Then I saw the movie and thought it was worse than the script, even with George Clooney in it. |

Is that how they were trying to twist the ending? | I thought she did escape and that the bulk of the movie was a final delusion before or as her mind was being scrambled. They planned the escape, but in her mind things were different. The girl that escaped wasn't under a delusion at all, but that doesn't explain the bus driver, which I chalked up to a director driven treat. Any of those girls could have seen him before in his professional duties and imagined him as a guide to get from point A to point B subconsciously.
