Through recent discussions it has come to my knowledge there are a few ( ) guys here on TB who follow cricket. But I bet there are many more (mainly from Oz, England, South Africa, probably New Zealand) I don't know about.
There's a bunch of threads regarding other (predominantly "American" ) sports, so cricket should have one too, I say.
So here's starting off the discussion with the recently concluded 1st test between India and Australia. Thrilling to say the least!
In another match, Bangladesh overcame New Zealand with a great all round performance by Shakib-al-Hasan, taking 4 wickets and scoring 58.
For all those who're wondering what all the fuss is about, see Cricket

As an Englishman, I'm currently enjoying the cricket. Although I can't work out of for the life of me why Monty made the Ashes squad...

Go India - Great win today.. Truly a thrilling match - I watched till the last ball hey - Riveting - Who says test cricket is dying man come on..
Hats off to Laxman for toughing it out till the end, with an injury.. It was Sharma and Laxmans partnership that won them the game i reckon..
And glad Bangladesh put one over the Black caps.. Just to make the series interesting.. They looking better and better hey, they can beat anyone on the day IMO, alls they need is to get some consistency going.
And yeh Ed, Monty not on my list either eh?? Thats gonna be one hell of an Ahes series though?? Cant wait... Although i gotta say the Aussies are a formidable side on home turf hey, gonna be a tough tough series. Goooooooo England for sure.
Btw Naturally South Africa is my team and I support them 10000000% And any side playing Australia
Anyway cool thread champ

And yeh test matches are played over 5 days.. Basically in a test match you need to bowl your opposition out twice to win the match. One day matches are 50 overs per side and more recently, if its the quick fix you're after, but helluva exciting, T20 is 20 overs per side.
Great game.
Btw back in the days they played timeless tests. Both sides batted twice and thats that if it took days and days then so be it..

The satisfaction teams (and fans ) get when a narrow victory is achieved after 5 days of toil far exceeds the thrill of a close T20 game

| Even though he's only had ODI and T20 games, I'd risk Graham Napier, just as a massive run threat.

Serious post: I played cricket once, it was fun, but more confusing than anything else. I'd like to play again if I can happen across a game like I did last time

Excuse me. | Look, it's easy: Quote:
You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.
Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.
When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out.
Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in.
There are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.
When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!
| Back on topic, I'm baffled by Monty's inclusion... but maybe he can up his game, last chance saloon for him I suspect.
I'm more baffled by the inclusion of the mythical KP though. IMO he's had his day & should be bounced back to the counties for a couple of seasons - maybe that'll teach him to stop chucking his wicket away, Botham he ain't, despite what he seems to think.
Glad to see Bresnan got in - he's pulled England out of the fire on more than one occasion & deserves his place.
Reckon we'll get hammered.

P. | I'm more bothered by Alistair Cook's inclusion. Apart from one decent innings against Pakistan he's been routinely hopeless, much like KP I suppose.
I don't think we'll get hammered, I think this is the best chance we've had for years to beat the Aussies down under. |

| +1 Your team looks more unified and well balanced that I've seen in years. And you've got some true match winners in all departments.. As for KP and Alastair Cook - Both are top quality players and i reckon they just need one good innings to get the ol confidence back and the Aussies will be in for a tough series.

She ended up being a bit of a head case though, so he moved on.

Indeed. I was wondering where I'd heard the name Lara Bingle before.

Zimbabwe are rebuilding pretty well, one must say.
