Hey y'all! I don't think I mentioned this here yet. I was excited to be recognized for a photo in the annual Popular Photography magazine photo contest.

http://www.popphoto.com/gallery/2012...nners?image=63

They called it "honorable mention" in the email which sounds cooler than "runner up" as it's listed on the website.

Originally they had emailed me and asked for a high-res version to print in the magazine but I was disappointed to see that they only gave it a 1" thumbnail on the opening page of the article.. which is OK I guess because not every pic even got a thumbail. I guess technically I can now say I've been published in Pop Photo... though I don't think I will lest someone ask to actually see it and I would have to sheepishly pull out a magnifying glass!

Brad

Posted a couple of times here, not much lately. Just picked-up a Sony NEX 5N at a great price and starting to "bond" with the camera. So far I'm very pleased. Here are a couple of pics I took in Zurich, Switzerland right after I got the camera.

Regards and happy holidays!

I want to wish everyone here a Merry Christmas.

If you don't celebrate Christmas, then I wish you peace during whatever holiday you do celebrate.

Mike
P.S. Congrats, Brad, on getting published.

I guess it's slow at all forums during the week between Christmas and New Years Day.

I do, however, have a photo to offer.

I know we have more than a few dog lovers here, so this photo should please.

Taken at my niece's inlaws, here's a Corgi, and a beagle/coon hound mix waiting for Santa.

I used to have a dog just like the beagle/coon hound, although he was black with a white belly.

Enjoy the waning days of 2012.

Mike

Total non-camera guy (unfortunately) but thought I would contribute an image just for fun.

Cool. Which lens?
more importantly, did you just make this video on your own or do you know them? I like that band

it was just the cheapo canon hv40 which has an amazing lens built in, and i know tex the singer from college in kent, ohio, i did their album cover for the split with future blondes

wanted to make them a video that wasn't similar to their other one's, less frenetic and without collage elements

Thanks
I have no solid gear to shoot with at the moment. One Nikon f3 body, no lens. Old minolta body mirror's jammed. old agfa med format but very inconsistent unreliable shutter--more like a lever than a proper shutter. sold my canon stuff.

Switching form Canon? Why? Just curious because I'm thinking about making the move to Nikon myself, haha.

Beginner

After quite a few years wanting to start really taking pictures, I finally bought a reflex camera. I was expecting to get a Canon 550d or 600d, but these were out of budget so I settled for a Canon 1100d. So far, I'm quite happy (only got it for 2 days...) and I think for starters it will be a really good tool.
so, should i get a uv filter? I've heard it's almost a must so as to protect the lense from scratches and such...

Anyway, I've been fiddling for a couple of days with the camera, and with a little editing software that comes with the camera. I've been triming pictures and playing with brightness, saturation and brightness. So far I don't understand a thing about it...
These are a couple of my newbie tests. I'm going on vacations in a week so I hope to have some decent pics after that!

playing with photobucket:

I think it's easy to see I can use some advice.

I'm not loyal to a particular brand. Every brand has a few great products. I only sold my canon gear because I needed drug money. JK.
GAS list:
Pentax 67--awesome medium format much cheaper than Mamiya 7ii.
Canon S95 (for the 3rd time) teh best camera for sneaking in to places where prohibited, gets great results, shoots in darkness.
Nikon 28-80 zoom--dime a dozen from the 80s but good lens
Canon 135 macro--awesome lens but prohibitively $$$$
Pentax underwater camera
I love Canon L series lenses. I've heard the 40mm pancake is nice too. Honestly I'm less concerned w brands these days I don't care what brand any more I just need to shoot or I go crazy. I do believe the body is less important; you should invest in lenses not the latest body. almost all bodies are good.
I miss my old set up--pentax k10 with an adapter for pentax 67 lenses. that was cool but heavier than an alembic.
