I am not counting my chickens before they are hatched, but you would have to play like the Leafs to blow this kind of lead.

From sports.yahoo.com:
"It ended 7-3 and, for a while, it looked like it might be 17-3."
Read my mind. After they pumped in 3 in the first 13 mins so effortlessly, I thought we were in for a historic Russian debacle. I started expecting something like 10 at least. (And this was supposed to be a close one!)
Poor Ovechkin. Snapping sticks (twigs?) at the drop of a hat.
But in the goals the Russians did score, they showed their prowess. Unfortunately, on a Canadian day, candles are definitely not brighter than the Sun.
Canada for gold, I say!

Whatever. Russia gave up on that game when it was 2-0.

But hey, after getting embarassed by this years "whipping boy" on Sunday, I can understand the national excitement over beating a team who didn't even care about playing tonight.

Looks like I'm not quite in tune with the vibe in USA and Canada regarding the games. I thought Russia were supposed to be fighting tooth and nail.

I'm just as excited about hockey in the Olympics as cricket, which is our de facto national sport.

Want to know why you won?

Do you see any Wilson comments prior to this game?

While I agree that the European teams (especially the Russians) have a history of giving up when they get behind I don't think it was when it was 2-0. More like like 4-1 or 5-1. But the reason they gave up was because they were being steam rolled by a team that has found itself. The guys on ESPN radio this morning even said that was probably the best game they have ever seen any hockey team play at the Olympics. Ever. Very complete.

Canada has a big, skilled physically punishing team. Not sure that combination has ever been put together before in such abundance. This really is how our nation expected this team to play.

Go Canada!

That's all.

But serioulsy, I now wonder with the emotions invovled how Nabokov and Brodeur will perfrom for their NHL clubs now.

Who? Mike&Mike? Those guys don't know anything about hockey.

I'm just razzing you Canucks. It was great to see you guys bounce back with a huge win. Keep it up so we can kick your butt again this weekend.

And seriously most Canadians would pass on every other medal if it meant winning men's hockey Gold on Canadian soil. Even Bob Costas noted that in NBC's opening of the Games.

And that's not to belittle the other Canadian athletes accomplishments.

I want to see a US v Canada rematch as well. It will be a combination of the Russia game and the gold medal game from 2002. AKA, we are going to bend the US over a table and have our way with them.

It was on Mike and Mike but it wasn't them. One of their guests. But they do know enough about hockey to know the true awesomeness of the win last night!

I have only taken your razzing as good natured fun! No worries there from me!

Hey Mike. Did you see the interview with Burke yesterday? He basically said that he didn't expect the US to beat Canada. Good to know the GM of the US team is so confident eh.
