Oh yeah, "addicted" is exactly the right word

By the time he moved out (he was living with us at the time) he had not only alienated her affections beyond repair, but had also run up some scary-high credit card bills feeding his computer-gear jones and seriously jeopardised his job from calling out too many times to play the Game

Not much different from a Dope addict, at that point
