I’m taking part at an event at our local RAF base next week, intended to provide info for people who want to study science further at whatever level suits them. I was asked to do something that could be tackled by high school age students, or adults without a science background interested in finding out more. So I’m using this (right click, Save Target As...). http://www.billygreen.pwp.blueyonder...final%20HQ.pdf
Each page describes the scientific aspects of an event, but in the document these are out of sequence. The idea is to sort the 28 events into order using the info provided, then the letters at the top right of each page will spell out a message. To help, the time scale is compressed into one year, and the text indicates whereabouts in the year that event would fit in.
Do you think this activity will work well? I'm handing it out as a sort of card game, printed at A6 size (about 4" x 6"), with a grid for filling in the letters as folks sort the stuff into order.

OT was quiet earlier on, so just checking what folks think when things are a little busier.

This thread seems to be dying before its time. Maybe I shouldn't have put the word "educational" in the title. That sort of stuff always puts folks off.

That said, I dig the cards. Cool pictures, occasionally funny captions, and so on. I think they'd be great if you were going for a younger audience. |

I used to be a teacher for the 11-18 age group and I was thinking that some of the technical vocabulary in there might be a bit tricky for a few people. Any teenage TBer's care to comment on how this compares in this respect to the stuff they get at school?

What about hiding the dates until after they've sorted the events? Knowing that the letters spell out a message would be a clue, and then they'd have to think more about the sequence of events.
The 'cosmic year' thing is great for putting these huge time scales into perspective. |

But you're right - the letters would have been a clue to the correct order, with the dates provided afterwards (or filled in from a supplementary sheet, perhaps). Good call. If I use this again, I may give that modification a try. Thanks!
