If you're over 30 you can participate.

If you're not, you must have some or all of the following conditions:
Wife and/or kids
Mortgage/Rent
Full Time Job
Body part that consistently gives you pain
Grouchy/Yells at kids on your lawn
Diminished libido

Premature balding or graying automatically qualifies you regardless of age.

So talk about being old.

When I was a kid, a pack of cigarettes as $1.25.

Our mothers smoked, we didn't wear helmets, and had toys that could poke your eye out. We are stronger because of it.

Kids nowadays...................................

Over 30, check.
Wife, check.
Kids...do step kids count? If so, check.
Mortgage, check.
Full time job...er...some might argue this point, but...CHECK!

This is where we separate...

Body part that constantly gives me pain, nope.
Grouchy/yelling at kids on my lawn, nope - I'm out running around with them. Dogs DIGGING however, yeah, I yell at them...
Diminished libido? Right, yeah, mmhmm.

Only thing I wanna groan about is my damn mortgage payment. Sucks paying half my income on the house payment every month....sigh...

My highschool had a designated smoking section for students.

My toys were rusted metal Tonka trucks. We just killed the tetanus with shots.

During elementary school we walked to and from school and our parents weren't worried about our safety.

Some of the best advice about being old.

Never trust a fart and always pee when you can.

When I was a kid, we were actually afraid of getting in trouble with the neighbors, the police and other authority figures. If we were getting reprimanded by a cop, we didn't "threaten" to call our moms on a cell phone.

Also...

When I flip past current music channels I just shake my head in genuine disgust. I think loathing current popular music is some generational old guy milestone.

51. I started playing music at around six, and bass, electric and acoustic pretty early. I was playing jazz gigs with my Dad by fifteen. Just me and a bunch of old guys, who asked Dad to bring me because I knew how to play walking bass lines. The first slab I played regularly was a red '59 P-bass that belonged to my high school. It's still there; I still have my Dad try to "liberate" it from time to time. BTW, Dad's 82 now, and he still plays. We jam when I head home on vacation.

In Wisconsin, we all had guns, lots of 'em. We got them as birthday presents. Yet somehow, we never considered taking one to school and massacring the faculty and student body.

Gas was in the thirty cent range, so we'd drive around for no apparent reason, just for the fun of it. Most of us also learned to drive as preteens, in our family cars, trucks, even tractors. By the time we tested for our licenses at 16, we had it wired. Drinking age was 18, we had that down pretty well too.

I was surrounded by family, including lots of Grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles. Most of my free time was spent messing around outside. I had a great childhood.

My libido's fine. I married a babe.

So did we. I would ride my bike really far away from our home, be gone the whole day and my Mom did not have a clue where I was.

I remember the First portable phones. My old boss bought one and showed it to everyone at work. It was this big briefcase with a huge military Walkie Talkie size phone attached by a telephone cord.

Everyone laughed at him.

-Believe in being respectful
-Have manners
-Spent my childhood working (I enjoyed it)
-Want neighbors/government/any one other than friends and family to stay out of my life

Our parents were super frugel, no credit cards back then. Everyone lived well under their income because they all lived through the Depression.
My mother in law would eat popcorn & milk for food in the depression. Remember jiffy pop?

You saved everything from rubber bands to butter dishes. Turn those lights off!
