So the last 2 weeks have been rough. My previously indestructible 19 yr old cat went to the vet for the first time in almost 13 years. She had lost a bunch of weight, started wheezing heavily, and to top it off..... stopped eating and drinking.
I'm no rookie when it comes to old pets, this is the 4th of ours to have issues at an old age. 2 are no longer with us, but this one still keeps on kicking. Anyway....
We accepted it might be her time, but i decided to force water and tried out baby food for her to eat. SHE LOVED IT. Not so much the water part, but she dove into the baby food. I saved her from dehydration and worse. After many tests and too many trips to the vet in a week (my wallet hurts... bad
), hyper-thyroid and a respiratory infection were the only issues!!! She has gained weight and is drinking and eating again.
So, keeping a long story long, test out your old pets for Thyroid irregularities. If you see vomiting, lethargy, lack of appetite.... this may be a sign. It's not that hard to fix
End of my PSA - back to your regularly scheduled program!
