Looking for some older metal bands. Feel like diving into the history of what I listen to, see where it all came from, and since I'm a youngin, I don't know anybody except for Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden (The popular guys)... and if you would be so kind as to include your favorite song from them that would be awesome.
Thanks

Motley Crue, Skid Row, (Old) Guns N Roses, Van Halen, Slayer, Motorhead, Kiss etc. Try looking at some Wikipedia articles on the genre. they tend to have multiple examples. |

To me THEY are the godfathers of the genre. These guys took metal to a completely different level that Sabbath, Rainbow, Deep Purple, and many other artists only wish they could of accomplished. |

Of course, throw in some Rush and Zep. One band not mentioned is King's X. They are a little later than the above, but an amazing band. I'd throw in some Queensryche too (Operation Mindcrime = amazing bass tone).

| | | | If you want something a little off the beaten path, at least as far as popularity goes, check out Voivod. Great, underrated, Canadian progressive/thrash metal band. |

Markus Grosskopf (from Helloween), definately my favourite metal bassist. An old school master like Steve Harris. |
