So, for the delight of the rest of the world's bacon lovers, i documented my attempt at the bacon explosion.
It was our first attempt at making it, so there is a lot to improve on for our future attempts (yes, there will be others).
In my haste to have it ready for me to consume i accidentally skipped or missed steps from the original recipe. But, it still turned out quite nice, a bit spicy but still porky and delicious.
So, for your viewing pleasure, here are pictures from our attempt, otherwise, according to the rules, it never happened.
ps, while we were devouring it, we were all in pure shock and awe that we had actually done what we had just done, and were actually eating what we were eating. It was a religious experience for us.
pics:
the ingreds
the weave (yes it wasnt as tight as we would have liked, but it got the job done)
sausage layer
mmm bacon
what would become our bacon bits
all ready to roll
roll #1
roll #2 (not as tight as we would have liked, but again, got the job done)
some basting
we attempted the BBQ, but it ran out of gas
so we put it in the oven
NOW, of course, my camera died before it was finished cooking
But it came out great, took just over 2 hours to cook to about 200 degrees on the inside (at 250 degrees in the oven). Once it was done cooking, we put it on broil for about 10-15 minutes to crispen up the layer of bacon, and we rolled it around for an even cooking.
We each got a few pieces, and with one of mine i grated some cheddar cheese and melted in the microwave and made a sandwhich out of it, good call on my part
Totals:
2 packages of bacon
2 pounds of sausage meat
8 inches long (about)
2.5 inches wide and thick
=
