The Onslow Appreciation Thread

Sign in to disble this ad
I watch "Keeping Up Appearances" on a regular basis-- mostly because of Onslow! If he were American, he'd be a redneck. He's fat, lazy, always has a beer in his hand, watches racin', and every car trip is punctuated with a backfire.

I love Keeping Up Appearances (along with other Britcoms) and Onslow has to be my favorite character. My wife is always telling me that her and I remind her of Daisy and Onslow! And of course I always reply,"Aww, nice!"

'Hyacinth both fears and detests Onslow; however he's a gentle, friendly character, and gets on well with everyone else. Onslow has a particularly strong rapport with Hyacinth's long-suffering husband, Richard (he usually calls him "Dickie"), and on one occasion rescues Richard from the demands of life with Hyacinth, taking him to a nearby pub. Onslow sympathises with his brother-in-law as he has a good idea how difficult life must be living with the protagonist.
Onslow is also a football fan, presumably of Everton as he comes from Merseyside, and dislikes Liverpool F.C. – so much so that he felt ready to divorce Daisy when she revealed on their honeymoon that she supported Liverpool. He also shows patronage towards the United States' National Football League, wearing a Green Bay Packers shirt in a series-5 episode'.

He ain't such a bad bloke, anyone whom get's you away from the missus and into the pub for respite is a diamond.

A suggested Xmas prezzie for fans of the armchair philosopher.

I named my cat "Onslow" after that character. My cat is fat and lazy, though he isn't much of a beer drinker.

Rising Damp and of course Fawlty Towers are among the very best entertainment in the world.

Fawlty Towers is the best sitcom that ever will be.

Father Ted, Blackadder II, League of Gentlemen, Bottom, Dad's Army and Black Books are kinda left to fight over the second best

But yeah, Onslow is some form of a god in human guise...

To me, it's the easiest of all the Brit Coms to do an English to "Engish" translation.

How about the Paul Whitehouse and Harry Enfield stuff?

I hope the female members of T.B can appreciate the irony of this Public Service Announcement ; )

The Front Fell Off - Classic Brit Understatement.

If you need any more intelligent answers to any technical, social, moral or political issues, these are the guys:: Clarke & Dawe

Check 'em out on YouTube.

The US had a pair of guys in the 1950s, and they had a TV show that I remember a very long time ago.

They were Bob & Ray, and here they are on the old Johnnie Carson Show. Unfortunately, all these people (with the possible exception of Ed McMahon) are all passed away::

Bob & Ray

In June of last year, Ed joined the rest of them on the Great Talk Show In The Sky.

I was pretty sure that he may have ceased life functions, but as pickled as he always was, who could tell?
