The Open Championship 2010 St. Andrews

Sign in to disble this ad
Another Open Championship at the home of golf is upon us. St Andrews. The Auld Grey Toon. The Road hole. And all the history. What a setting. Easily my favorite sporting event of the year. But even more special when it returns to St. Andrews.
Hopefully the wind blows a bit for them this year. They have had a couple easy years weather wise, and it would be nice to see some nasty conditions for them to struggle in.
Also looking forward to seeing sir Nick Faldo tee it up again.
A few players are in form and coming off recent good performances leading up to the Open. Tiger not being one of them.
I am going to go with Justin Rose to win the championship. And also I have to cheer on Sergio Garcia. He has come close the last couple years, and should have won it last year.

About 39 hours until they tee it up. I'll be up and watching play at 5:00am my time. Can't wait.

We've been having some pretty nasty wind around the country recently, and not just because of my eating habits.

So, it could be interesting.

yeah I saw they had some really good winds blowing for one of their practice rounds.
I love watching them deal with heavy winds. Hahahahaha They don't get tested enough in difficult conditions. It's nice to see them humbled by shooting some high scores more regularily. I like seeing the top players playing the most difficult course set up possible. It's more interesting for watching.

It is "The Open" Championship, often mis-named the British Open. But for the layman, British Open is acceptable. Don't say that around any Scotsman though. You may get a earful of haggis.

St. Andrews is one of my favorite courses in the world to watch. I have nothing to do at work today, so I'll probably be on ESPN3 all morning.

I'm pulling for Daly.

I also love to see the pro's struggle. Hence my favorite tounament is the U.S. Open. Although I'm kind of pissed that they are caving to the whiny pro's about the toughness of the roughs. sissies.

The wind has died down a bit, but the weather is still pretty ****. Especially considering we've had a few months of pretty glorious summer weather!

Yeah, St. Andrews is my favorite course also.
Where is the wind?? ... Man, they are shooting some low scores today. I hope they get a little harsher weather tomorrow.
It was nice to see Faldo play well. Level par for him.
hahahahaha Just saw someone take 4 whacks to get out of the Road Hole Bunker. Love it.

I always find it funny how big the open is at St Andrews, if you've ever been to St Andrews itself, it's a crummy little town consisting of basically 3 streets!

It's the history behind it. 600 years of it.
I'm from a crummy little town too, so I would be completly at home there.
And I am used to the wind too. It blows 40 km/h, here on the prairies, just about every day.
I plan on making a pilgrimage to St.Andrews in a year or two.
My Jerzy Drozd custom VI has eaten up my St. Andrews trip fund at the moment.

I dare say, when something like that is on your back door, you tend to take it for granted

The course was defensless this morning. If the wind doesn't kick up there will be some crazy low #'s this week.

Well when I think of Scotland... I think of St.Andrews, and bagpipes. Not scotch, or haggis or kilts, St. Andrews. hahahahaha But I am a hard core golfer.
I was a greenskeeper for 10 years, until 2002, and then I turned pro and worked in the pro shop. Now I just teach golf. I would love to work on the Old Course though. With the greens crew. I still love looking after grass too. I have a 1000 sq/ft putting green in my backyard. Yes I am that much of a hardcore hahahahaha. Here is a photo of it.

And my tool box

notice the custom Nike Blade "rusty" irons.

Yeah the field have been lucky with the weather today. And they are taking advantage. But they are supposed to get wind tomorrow.
63 by McIlroy was crazy. But Daly could have been 10 or 11 under. Man, he played good today. It was fun to watch. I have been watching for just about 8.5 hours now. A couple hours of coverage to go.
