Osama Death Celebrations Creep Me Out

Bin Laden's Death: Stop the Party | The Root

I guess my African American background makes me sensitive to that sort of thing, but I can't get with people partying because someone, even an evil person, has been killed. It just looks way to much like a lynch mob to me. Also, as others have noted, when we revel in death, we are basically acting just like Osama bin Laden did during his miserable life.

I agree Doc. I'm glad he is gone, but felt no urge to celebrate.

Doc, Don't you mean Osama death celebrations?

I have to say, Obama death celebrations would creep me out too.

I'm not surprised you feel that way too. You are in line of work where you may have to kill or risk being being killed. My guess there is nothing cool or romantic about bullets flying to you.

it is certainly a topic deserving of serious discussion and self reflection, IMO...how it relates to a sense of ethics, morals, and different religious beliefs

Yeah I don't really understand it myself. I'm pretty happy about it, but not party in the streets happy.

Oi, I'm glad he's dead but definitely not a party kind of situation. If anything it should only be a passing topic of conversation at a party.

Celebrating the death of evil is not the same as being evil.

It's weird....I kind of feel the same way.
I knew folks who died in the towers... when they passed, it made me feel really angry - like I really really wanted to punish someone.
Over the years, it sort of passed to be honest. I just moved on and didn't think about it much anymore.
Last night, when I heard the news, ALL of that came right back. My first reaction was disbelief, then joy - like something left unfinished was finally put to rest. But it was a very personal almost solemn thing, not a joyful "party your butt off in the streets" thing. I dunno...the over the top partying kind of creeps me out too.

i'm not going to celebrate until i see the body. ppl like Osama need their asses beat down. if i jay-walk in some hick town i may get fined. if i blow up an occupied location you have my permission to not only kill me, but spit on my grave in celebration of my removal!!!

Despite it's false attribution allover the twit-world today, this really sums things up...

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy."

And seems to pair well with some real sentiments from a real thinker:

"Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."-MLKjr.

Many or most of the UBL partiers in DC had come from a playoff hockey game. They were drinking no doubt. Perhaps this adds perspective.

I don't get it myself either, although part of me can see NewYorkers getting into it.

Returning violence worked well in WWII.

Agreed, but it's weird to me at least going that far. The news put a smile on my face but I'm not gonna throw a dead terrorist party that's just a sucky premise for a party. Question to everyone though, by being glad he's dead could that be considered celebration as well?

I agree I don't find it right to celebrate anyone dying.
