I used to have a small solar radio, and my grandparents get hot water from solar panels.

He's not providing pics of his herb garden. IS THAT THE SMELL OF ILLICIT ACTIVITY IN THE AIR?

Nope. That aroma is mostly spearmint and rosemary

My digital calipers are soloar powered and we have a floating pool fountain as well. I have a solar trickle charger for my boat also. It works great as long as I'm not in a rush

I've got a solar powered flashlight at home.
No ****. I really do have one. You leave it out in the sun and the solar panel charges an internal battery. It also has a built in radio. For emergency, there's a crank on the side you can use to generate power. Nifty little contraption. Forget where I got it.

Cool

Battery charger. Charges standard AAA-AA-C-D and a few stick sizes. Probably 9V also. I use it for the battery in my MP3 player and stuff.

I have a solar powered industrial thermometer in my loft which serves as my jam room / equipment room / man room.

i looked into this here in AZ (valley of the sun). the cost benefit seemed to be about 20 or so years out after all of the rebates an tax credits. and if you still have to pay to be connected to the grid. out here, they will buy any unused energy from you.

The years to return is shortening some. Plus I have a childhood friend that runs a 'Green' consulting firm pretty local that says he can get me a bit of the stuff cheap if I go the DIY route.

James, there are photo-voltaic roof shingles on the market that replace entire courses of traditional asphalt shingles and blend in to the design vs. surface mounted panels. Pretty neat.

As for myself, all my exterior yard lighting is solar powered, be it moderately sized "lanterns" and perimeter lights. I also have solar powered vernier calipers here, and a solar powered / crank radio.
