OUYA and other video game stuff

So, this Kickstarter project called OUYA started last July and I backed it. (First time backing a project for me!) did anyone else back it? Did anyone even hear about it? It set a ton of Kickstarter records, fasted funded, highest amount earned, etc.

The delivery date for the consoles is March. I'm so stoked for this.

In related news, the Dreamcast name was renewed by SEGA, and I hear rumors that the new XBOX and PS will be released this year.

That's kind of a cool concept, I hadn't heard anything about this.

Had a thread on it here on talkbass a while back. Cool idea. We'll see how it pans out.

It's a cool concept and I'm tempted to get one, there was a thread on it back while the kickstarter was still running.

I dont think we'll see the new Xbox or PS actually released this year, though I do think we could see them unveiled later this year for a 2014 release. But who knows, maybe they will manage the Christmas 2013 buying season.

Also keeping an eye on the two Steam 'consoles' that might come out the works this year or next.

They renewed it back in 2007 as well. I believe it might have something to do with SEGA re-releasing Dreamcast games on PSN and XBOX Live Arcade.

The SteamBox will be interesting.

With these new releases, I think the PlayStation will become the least popular of all the consoles. Developers are required to code in Sony's proprietary language, and that is part of the reason why Xbox has 3x the games. With this new console competition, Microsoft and Sony will be forced to act quickly, as Xbox hardware is already 10 years old.

OUYA is awesome that it opens game development to the masses, and that is great for us gamers!

I've heard a TON of rumors about this being the year of new consoles. The 360 has been out for 8 years now after all.

For me, the new Xbox would have to be something special, or the new PS absolutely terrible, for me to take the Xbox over the PS.

OUYA is cool, but I think it'll cater to a different market, kinda like how the Wii wasn't really competing against the 360 or PS3 markets. Plus, due to its low cost I suspect that many will end up owning either a PS or Xbox, and a OUYA.

All the rumors seem to point to us most likely getting the successors to the PS3 and 360 this year.

This was also posted on IGN earlier today about Sony waiting on Microsoft to make the first move about revealing anything. I thought it was kind of interesting.
